How Long Does It Take For Nail Polish To Dry
In most cases, after painting your nails they will take 20-30 minutes to dry to a tacky finish. This means they will no longer be fully wet but they can still smudge if you run your nails into something. It can take 45 minutes to an hour before the polish is 100% dry and you are free to go about your day and touch your nails to things or wash your hands. For the easiest time waiting for them to dry, consider painting your nails before you watch a movie, take a long car drive, or do something else that will have you staying still for a while. To speed up the process, you can blow on your nails, use a blowdryer over them, or purchase a quick-drying top coat which will speed up the drying time considerably.
To Make Sure I Was Evaluating Every Nail Polish Fairly I Kept These Variables Consistent Over My Month
Apply polish the same exact way. For each test, I painted three layers on each nail.
Wear each polish for 7 days. At the end of the week, I would assess any chipping.
Test two brands at a time, alternating the colors on both hands. This was to offset more potential chipping on my dominant hand .
Use light or semi-light polish colors. More on this below.
Avoid base coats, top coats, and gel formulas. I opted out of base coats and top coats in order to keep the focus on the polish itself. I also avoided gel polishes because their long-wearing formulation gives them an unfair advantage over ‘regular’ polishes.
The Topcoat Is Shiny Af
Unfortunately, my right hand still looked far from salon quality , but the topcoat really saved the day. It was just thick enough to offer a nice post-manicure sheen while masking some of the errors I made with the first two coats. It did take a bit longer to dry than the polish itself, but not by much.
Glancing down at my nails, they looked the closest to a professionally done manicure that I had ever been able to achieve on my own. I was also extremely grateful for the Clean-Up Brush because it was thin enough to get rid of any polish that strayed from my nails onto my skin without ruining the manicure itself.
I was struck by how summery the color felt. For a brief moment while assessing the job Id done, I pictured myself in the sun, smelling of SPF, and wearing a bathing suit in that exact shade of periwinkle. And for the first time, that thought didnt feel like FOMOit felt like hope that thered still be some summer to enjoy.

But Even Though There Were So Many Positives About This Polish It Chipped Pretty Easily Around The Edges Of The Nail
For the price point, this is a solid polish. In addition to the fun colors they offer, the brand is also vegan, cruelty-free, and 7-free. While their website says, “When you add our top coat, you should get 5-7+ days of wear,” I believe this to some degree. Just make sure to do thin layers and let each layer dry completely to get the most lasting effect.
Truth be told, I see Olive & June replacing my Essie purchases every now and then since it’s a similar price point.

Named after celebrity esthetician Shani Darden, it doesn’t get more perfect than this rich, juicy shade of plum. We’d tell you it’s perfect for winter, but we love it so much that it’s become an all-year-round kind of situation.
First Impressions: This Stuff Dries Really Quickly
After filing and buffing my nails, I started to apply the polish. The first coat was a bit sheer but once I applied a second coat, the color appeared more vibrant.
Typically, I start painting my nails with my thumb, then work my way around my hand. When applying the first and second coat of the polish, I noticed that by the time I reached my pinky nail, my thumb was already dry. Ive used a lot of quick drying nail polishes in my day, but nothing that worked as well as this. I barely had to wait my to paint my other hand so that the polish wouldnt smudge, and the whole process only took about 20 minutes.
To top it all off, the polish smell that often hangs in the air after an at-home manicure session wasnt bad. My boyfriend even commented that he couldnt smell anything, and he was sitting right next to me. An added bonus, for sure.

Candice Shared The Following 8 Steps For The Best Possible Manicure Application And I Followed Them For My Test:
1. Clean your hands and nails with soap and water. “The problem with retention can come from the nail not being properly cleaned or prepped,” Candice told BuzzFeed.
2. Use acetone, alcohol, and/or a nail polish remover on the nail to make sure there is no grease or oil. “This will dehydrate/degrease the nail. If not, the oil will propel the polish and cause your polish to chip a lot faster,” she said.
3. Stabilize your hand and sit at a table. “I recommend turning on a show or something that you can listen to that will make you feel calmer,” she said.
4. Don’t multi-task. “Be patient while you’re polishing. Don’t try to rush through it because you’re going to make mistakes that way,” Candice said. “Take your time.”
5. Fan the bristles of your brush out when applying. “If you spread the brush on the neck of the bottle as you’re pulling it out, you can literally get the brush in a wider motion and in the shape of your cuticle area so you can get the color down in one stroke,” she explained.
6. Paint thin layers. “You definitely want to be mindful of the amount. You want to take it layer by layer,” she said. “If you slap on one thick coat, it can actually peel a lot faster.”
7. Allow each layer to actually dry. ” is going to make the layers take a lot longer to dry in between,” Candice said. “And it’s also going to chip faster because you didn’t give the layer sufficient time to settle.”

But After 7 Days The Polish Was Not Quite As Chip
I don’t know what kind of gloss ingredient they put in their formulas, but this polish was shiny until the end. I bet if I just used a top coat, this polish would have lasted beyond a week, too because most of the polish itself was still on in the middle of my nail beds.
However, without a top coat, this polish chipped more than I wanted. Granted, this was the first polish I tested , so I can see this slightly impacting the evaluation of this polish in some way. Lesson learned!
On the other hand , if you are looking for a glossy, eco-friendly polish that dries in a snap this is your polish.

First Place: People Of Color Pink Sand
If I could write a love letter to a nail polish, it would be to People of Color a Black-owned business that describes itself as a brand “for people of color and for those who live in color”. This was my very first time using this brand, and I was impressed not only with its formula but also its longevity.
I Will Never Use Another Nail Polish Remover Again That Is Not The Polish Remover Pot
While I could talk at length about how much I love Olive & Junes nail polish colors, I must spend a moment on the ingenious invention that is the Polish Remover Pot. At first glance, I assumed it was filled with an acetone-free liquid nail polish remover, but when I opened that puppy up and discovered the sponge inside, my world was shaken. Gone were the days of spilling remover onto little cotton balls, only to have them stink up your bathroom later. With this bad boy, all you had to do was stick your nail into the pot between the sponge, twist it around, and the polish was gone. No mess. No hassle. No horrific smell. So simple, yet such a revelation.
The pot also also worked nicely with the Clean-up brush a quick dip in and the brush was coated with remover, making it easy to perfect my nails.
I had a feeling Id enjoy the Olive & June box, but I couldnt predict the carefree signature-summer feeling Id get just from nail polish. With six other colors still left to try, and a pot that makes removal super easy, Ill be living out the warm weather through my nails all summer long.
