Why Does Skin Fungus Keep Coming Back

The tendency for fungus to recur in many adults, especially on the feet and toenails, is a genetic condition. Their skin cannot recognize the fungus as foreign and get rid of it. After having a fungus there for a while the bodys immune system learns to live with the fungus and no longer tries to get rid of it.

Even if you have a rip-roaring case of Tinea versicolor, you may not know it until you get a suntan. But the fungus isn’t just a summer problem . . . it inhabits your body year-round. Because the colony sites don’t tan like normal skin, they stand out as pale blotches and spots on your bronzed body. Summer heat and humidity, coupled with extra moisture from perspiration spur colony growth and make the problem worse.

There’s no real cure for Tinea versicolor. Once you have the fungus that causes it, it’s almost impossible to eradicate. But you can keep the fungus from taking over your body, and, with a little extra effort, you can even rid yourself of the spots it leaves on your skin.

Tinea versicolor can be treated in one of two ways. One method involves taking a single oral dose of a fungus-killing drug called Ketoconazole. This anti-fungal medication results in a short-term cure for about 90 percent of people with the condition. Unfortunately, there’s a small but definite risk of liver disease associated with the drug.

The other treatment for Tinea versicolor consists of putting medicine directly on the skin. If you opt for this method, you’ll probably use selenium sulfide, the major ingredient of anti-dandruff shampoos like Selsun Blue.

If You Have Been Struggling For Months Or Years With Toenail Itching And Foul Smell Trying Diets And Exercise But With No Real Results You Should Know That Its Not Your Fault

According to scientists from the the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, decades of people using treatments but stopping short of completely killing the fungus meant the remaining fungus learnt how to survive.

That made the treatment useless the next time around as the fungus mutated into a stronger kind of fungus.

The meds you took by now, just like antibiotics, ended up creating stronger, mutated fungi. This led to antifungal resistance, which makes it almost impossible to get rid of fungus.

    What Causes Tinea Versicolor

Tinea versicolor is a harmless skin disorder caused by a yeast fungus living on normal skin. Usually this germ which all of us have on our skin grows sparsely and is not visible. In some individuals, it grows more actively. This causes the slightly scaling patches on the trunk, neck, or arms known as tinea versicolor. On untanned skin, tinea versicolor rash is pink to coppery tan. On tanned skin, the tinea versicolor patches are lighter because tanning doesnt occur in the rash areas. The failure to tan is temporary the skin tans normally after the rash has cleared.

The following ingredients can help reduce itchiness and flakes, as well as gently soften and remove thick scale.

    • Hydrocortisone is a mild corticosteroid that can decrease itching and inflammation.
    • Coal tar decreases skin cell growth and helps the scalp shed dead skin cells.
    • Salicylic acid is a âkeratolytic,â or peeling agent, that helps soften and remove thick scale. Once scale is removed, other medications will be able to penetrate the skin more easily, potentially increasing effectiveness.

Progress? Two applications of Selsun blue, honey mask and fungal foot ...

Athletes Foot Most people will get this very common fungus at some point in their life, with more than 10% of the U.S. population suffering this problem each year. Most often it occurs between your third, fourth, and fifth toes, sometimes spreading to the sole. The skin between the toes becomes white, moist, and easily rubbed off the tops of the toes may be red, dry and flaky. Also, there is intense itching and burning. Athletes foot usually occurs with hot, moist conditions and mostly affects teen and adult males. It less frequently affects children before puberty. Contributing causes include sweating, not drying the feet well after swimming or bathing, wearing tight socks and shoes and warm weather conditions.

Jock Itch As with athletes foot, heat, moisture and poor air circulation can also cause a fungus infection of the groin or jock itch. Again, intense itching and burning are experienced, along with redness, flaking and peeling on the inner thighs, pubic area and scrotum.

Ringworm This is caused by a microscopic fungus, not a worm. The infected area spreads out slowly from its central starting point, creating a slightly raised, intensely red ring surrounding a less red, flaky, itchy area. This ring slowly enlarges over a period of several weeks. It can occur anywhere on the body and in more than one location on the body at once.

    • Living in a warm climate
    • Contact with other people or pets that have ringworm
    • Lowered immunity from disease or medication

What Does Fungal Acne Look Like

Fungal acne usually appears like a typical white head surrounded by redness. It commonly appears on oily areas such as the T-zone , chest, and back. The bumps may be exacerbated by sweat or over-moisturizing. Additionally, being in a humid climate can increase your likelihood of developing fungal acne, as yeast thrives in this type of environment.
