If youve ever wondered who the mastermind is behind Billie Eilish, Cardi B or Kylie Jenners nails, her name is Sojin Oh.

Hailing from Korea, the nail artist migrated to North America at the young age of 15 to help support her family. Ohs goals took her to the sunny city of Los Angeles, where she worked in the creative production industry for renowned fashion houses. Eventually, she decided to work independently and explore her creativity. Thus, sojinails was born.

With her incredible talent and attention to detail, Oh is known for her out-of-the-box nail art. As a result, she has worked with the entertainment industrys biggest names, including Rihanna, Lil Nas X, Kim Kardashian and more. The artist has also had the honor to collaborate with Louis Vuitton and YSL Beauty, among others.

As part of HYPEBAE CNs Summer Refresh campaign, we asked Oh to create an exclusive design. I wanted to embody the feminine elements and forms inherent to Mother Earth, the artist explains the concept behind her creation.

How would you describe your nail art style in three words?

Organic, ethereal and chaotic.

Meet Koreatown Nail Artist: Denisse Obledo

Today wed like to introduce you to Denisse Obledo. Denisse is a super talented nail artist with a deep love for the art and a commitment to invest the energies that are needed to breakthrough in LAs competitive environment. Below youll find our interview with her.

Denisse, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

I started by watching YouTube videos back in 2012. I was so inspired by all these girls and their gorgeous nail art so I decided I wanted to try it too. From there I kept practicing and trying new techniques whenever something interested me.

What are your plans for the future?

I do plan on one day going to nail school to get my license and possibly opening up my own salon after that. Its a long-term goal that I hope to accomplish someday.

Lets dig a little deeper into your story. What was the hardest time youve had?

Do you ever just stop and think WOW Ive made it?

A time that I felt that one day I could possibly do this for a living was when I got contacted by a nail salon wanting to hire me. I thought, wow, my passion for nails and dedication to posting on Instagram has brought me some attention from a real nail salon. Unfortunately, I couldnt take the job since Im not licensed but it just gave me the boost of confidence that I needed to follow my dreams of one day working in a salon or maybe even owning one myself.

Typical airbrush guns the kind used by artists at the fair or by car painters are meant for scale, not for tiny surface areas like fingernails. These things all require a different level of control, Robles explains. Even long acrylic nails require a specialized, fine-point airbrush system. Robles found hers a Japanese airbrush system called Airgel while attending a nail convention in Japan, and she honed her craft by apprenticing with a Japanese teacher named Motico for two years. Shes also been taking classes with the Central California-based fine artist and car airbrusher Daniel Barrigas for the last year, who she says has helped expand her craft.
