Create Your Criteria: What Details You Should Consider

If youre still reading, its safe to assume youre down-with-the-salon-suite-get-downwelcome to the party.

Now that youre on board, its time to start thinking about some of the hugely important factors that must be considered when it comes to picking out your salon suite.

We wont liethere are a ton of factors to consider, but were going to list the top three things we believe make all the difference when it comes to deciding on a spot. We encourage you to read these, take notes, and then brainstorm about other factors that should affect your decision.

Gaining Freedom But Losing Some Control

When you decide to rent a booth as a nail tech, you’ll certainly gain freedom. As an employee at an existing shop, you work the hours you’re asked to work and you get paid what the owner decides to pay you when you’re hired. Renting a booth allows you to set your own hours and you will likely be given 24/7 access. However, you may have to pay an additional fee to use the space outside of normal business hours.

Youll Make More Money

A salon employees income is not directly affected by how many customers they bring in. You will usually pay a percentage of all the money you make to the salon owner sometimes up to 45%. Salon suite rental, however, allows you to retain 100% of the profits. As a business owner, youll appreciate the value of securing and retaining new clients.

So How Do Taxes Work When Youre Both Running Your Own Beauty Business And Renting Space For Your Salon Suite Firstly Its Going To Depend On What Kind Of Business Youre Running Do You Function In An Llc Are You Considered A Sole Proprietorship Or Are You Considered An Independent Contractor

Rent a Salon Suite and Share the Cost

If youre an independent contractor within your landlords space, you can treat your space rental the same for tax deduction like a salon owner can deduct rents for their business space.

Your salon space is deductible as a business expense against your income received on your tax return.

Additionally, as the owner of your own business, remember that supplies can be considered for tax deductions as well.

If youre a cosmetologist who needs regular supplies think brushes, shampoos, gels, etc. then those supplies are direct business expenses that can likely be directly deducted against income on a tax return.

Above all, we suggest that as a business owner or independent contractor, you track all your expenses, all your supplies, all your income, and more for when its tax season.

Take a good hard look at whats considered a deductible, and if possible, work with an accountant who specializes in independent contractors and small business owners.

Make sure that youre really, really running your business. AKA you need to be responsible for buying your supplies, managing your books and keeping track of your inventory.

Your Logo And Business Cards:

You will want to invest in quality business cards when it comes to your business. Business cards can be the first impression for new clients. Try to order cards that match your salon theme and colors.

Order cards made out of a thicker material. This way the cards wont have creases if they bend or sit in someones purse for a while. Your business cards should represent who you are and how you like to do business.

Think if you want a short logo for your name. If you are artsy Canva and Photoshop are great resources for building your logo, or you can outsource it to companies that specialize in logos.

Your business cards will want to have your business name, title, address and phone/email in addition to a brief description of services you offer.

Hear What Our Customers Have To Say

I love renting space at NAB. They are super flexible I started on a daily rental while I worked on building all my clients then I moved to a monthly rental and saved even more money. They offer all the tools you need to run your business however if you want to use all your own tools and booking software you can do that too.

KIM S.

NAB is great I do Nails & Lashes they offer space for both services. Starting my own business can be expensive however they offer wholesale prices on products so instead of paying 100% markup online I am able to buy the supplies I need for my clients at a discounted rate. I have saved so much money..The manager gave me some tips and tricks to run ads and campaigns to get more clients this was a game changer for me. I like how the longer I stay I am eligible for lower rent.

What Are Salon Suite Rental Prices

Just like any commercial space, the costs of renting a salon suite vary depending on the size and location. One salon owner might charge weekly rent, while some owners will charge by the month. You could be looking at paying a higher price for a weekly salon suite in downtown New York, while a monthly rental in a smaller city might be a lot less.

The key is to do your research. Look up salons in a few different locations and ask yourself where youd prefer to work. Are you eager to be in a busy downtown area, or do you want something in a cozy neighbourhood? Do you want to stay close to your existing clientele, or focus on creating some new salon business opportunities? Average costs depend on salon suite location and typically amount to about $250-$500 per week. If owning your own business, growing your brand, and being free to keep your own profits appeals to you, renting a salon suite can be a great strategy.

What Is A Nail Salon Suite

Bender

Before answering that question, what are nail salon suites, we need to first examine how things once were. A nail professional, in the old days of the beauty industry, would rent a chair at a local beauty salon. She would then pay a commission, to the salon owner, on every customer she had. If she needed beauty product she would pay a commission on that as well. In other words, she did all the heavy work and only received a percentage of the profits generated by that work, and it continued on like that until the day arrived, if it ever did arrive, when that nail professional could afford her own beauty salon, which did not happen very often.
