The Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation has a rather stringent requirement for students aspiring to become nail technicians. Students must complete at least 600 hours of coursework and instruction at an approved nail tech school in Texas. After receiving a diploma from one of the nail tech schools in Texas, students will then need to successfully pass one of the written examinations in the state. Students must be at least 17 years of age to enter into a nail technician program in Texas. They must have also completed at least the seventh grade.
