Old Bag Of Nails Has Successful First Week

  • The Old Bag of Nails opened on North 21st Street on July 28.
  • The restaurant will be at the former Grill on Twenty-First Street location.

NEWARK It’s been about a week since The Old Bag of Nails Pub opened its doors in Newark for a soft opening.

So far, general manager Tim Miller said he’s been pleased with how things are going.

“We’ve been very busy. The town has been really receptive,” he said.

The Columbus-based restaurant chain opened its Newark location July 28 at 1671 N. 21st St. That location was formerly The Grill on Twenty-First, Pub 49 and The Grill and Alehouse.

Patrons of those restaurants will notice some changes when they visit The Old Bag of Nails.

The interior has been completely redesigned, and the entire dining area is all on one level, Miller said.

The restaurant also has a new bar area that seats 50 people, with several large party tables that can be used for events.

With Ohio State University football season coming up, customers will have a comfortable spot to watch the game and enjoy a variety of drinks, including craft beers, Miller said.

Although it is best known for its fish and chips, Miller said the restaurant also been serving lots of nachos, burgers and fried pickles.

The pub offers a variety of salads, sandwiches, steaks and seafood entrees.

“I’ll be honest, just about everything on the menu is pretty popular,” Miller said.

“It’s a different dining experience,” he said. “It’s a pub atmosphere with a fine dining mentality.”

Old Bag Of Nails Owner Closing Two Establishments But Opening Three Others

Posted: Aug 26, 2021 / 02:52 PM EDT

COLUMBUS, Ohio The owner of Old Bag of Nails is closing two sites, but has a trio of new ventures in the works as well.

Mike Purdum said the last day of business for his pub at Creekside in Gahanna will be Aug. 29. Same goes for the Pour House Tavern thats next door, a sister business to the main pub brand.

Both have been around for about 20 years.

Purdum said he wasnt looking to close or sell but a buyer approached him about selling the real estate and the offer was too good to refuse.

He said having opened a new restaurant in Whitehall last year thats performing well and having the ability to transfer workers to other locations it made sense to take the deal and close the two establishments.

The deal is being finalized and could close by October. Purdum would not name the buyer or the terms.

The business is going to remain plenty busy.

While Old Bag of Nails has one new location in the works and a relocation coming next year, Purdum and his wife Tara Purdum are cooking up a new concept as well.

Work will start soon on a two-story, 10,000-square-foot Old Bag of Nails in Lansing, Michigan. That restaurant is part of Columbus-based Continental Real Estates Red Cedar project connecting Michigan State University and the State Capitol. The overall project includes student housing, hotels, apartments and other commercial space.

Is Toenail Reconstruction For Everyone

No. It is recommended there be at least 15% of the nail remaining for the resin to attach. Certain health conditions should not have this procedure and can be discussed with your foot specialist. However, this is an option for someone looking to temporarily improve the appearance of a missing nail for special occasions or events.

Old Bag Of Nails Pour House Tavern Leaving Gahanna

Old Bag of Nails Pub and Pour House Tavern are bidding farewell to Gahanna.

Both, part of the local chain founded and owned by Mike Purdum, will close at the end of business day Aug. 29.

It was a tough decision to leave Gahanna after 20 years, Purdum said. Its sad to leave because its such a beautiful location.

In the Creekside development with patio views of Big Walnut Creek, Old Bag of Nails is at 63 Mill St., and Pour House is next door at 57 Mill St.

Purdum said a developer had contacted him about selling the properties and the deal was too good to ignore. He wouldnt disclose the purchasers name or terms of the sale because the contract was not finalized.

Either way, he said, hes closing.

All employees have been given jobs at other locations in the company, he said.

Purdum said the closest Old Bag of Nails Pub is at 4661 E. Broad St. in Whitehall. The company has no other Pour House.

In a pair of related notes, Purdum, long known for his fish and chips, is going into the pizza business.

He said after 10 years of research and development with his wife, Tara Purdum, he will dedicate half of the Old Bag of Nails Pub at 2012 Tremont Center in Upper Arlington to his pizza venture.

He said he slowly has rolled out the homemade pie a few nights at the restaurant and the customers greeted it warmly.

He said he hasnt decided on a name yet for the pizzeria but expects to open it in a few months.

Old Bag Of Nails Mason

#6Restaurants in Mason

Surprising wee gem, popped in on the spure of moment .Excellent all round from food to service Will be back

Been there often and have always had good experience. The fish and the shrimp are fantastic. The onion rings-best I have EVER had. Their deep fried corn on the cob-nothing like it. Now I’m hungry!

Sometimes the Fish and Chips is excellent. Hot and Crispy, today it was was cold and soggy. Hot and Cold, that is what we experience here for over three years. We ordered their Frnech Onion soup, I asked the excellent waiter Dez to make sure…we have time to enjoy our soup before he brought the food. He complied. Obviously the cook started it all at the same time. The soup was hot and fair, the Fish and chips was most likely sitting on the counter under a food lamp until we finished our soup. the fish and fries were cold and greasy. Arrived 2:00 PM on a Saturday. Seated right away at a booth. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was your average selection. Reasonably priced. Got the french dip. If I visited again I would try something different. Not much of a vegan selection. Just an…average place to dine.More

Old Bag Of Nails Reaches Silver Anniversary

By Cliff Wiltshire | on November 29, 2021

As a local business celebrates its 25th anniversary, leaders are looking back on how their business has grown and changed through the past quarter century.

The Old Bag of Nails, which opened in 1996 in Old Worthington, was the first restaurant in the popular chain that now spans across the state.

The building we are in used to be part of a hardware store, said Michael Allen, financial controller for Old Bag of Nails. The owner and founder Mike Purdums wife had a print shop in the general area and knew how much foot traffic this location attracted.

Mike and Tara Purdum, holding Abigail, entertain a few friends during the early days of the Old Bag of Nails.

Allen said Purdum was inspired by the location being the old Zettler Hardware Store and that was how he developed the name. The old wood floors and rustic charm have been with the restaurant since the beginning.

My wife owned a store near Zettler Hardware and I often helped out at the store, Purdum told the Spotlight in 2019.

I decided what was missing in that area of High Street was a pub. So, I talked to the owner of Zettler about taking 1,500 square feet of his hardware store and developing it into a pub. He said if you think you can make it, go ahead. We opened in 1996.

Thats where the name The Old Bag of Nails comes from, said Purdum. It pays tribute to our beginnings.

Mike Purdum opened his Clintonville Bag of Nails in 2019.
