The Five Basic Nail Designs
1. Dots
Dots are a great place to begin with basic nail art designtheyre easy to create and they render a fun, playful effect. To get the look, pour a small amount of nail polish onto a safe surface and dip the end of your dotting tool into it. Holding your tool at a 90 degree angle, apply tiny dots. You can create patterns or simply dot as you please!
2. Stripes
Striped nails are just about as versatile as dotted nails, and theyre definitely as easy. Using your striping brush, start at the cuticle line and drag the brush toward the free end of your nail. Play around with different thicknesses, angles, or numbers of stripes for a look thats fun, preppy, or sophisticated.
3. Half Moon
Remember those round bandages from your supply list? Heres where they come in!
Prep your nails and apply your base coat only. Then, apply the bandages to each finger, covering the bottom quarter of your nail. Next, apply colored polish over the whole nail, including the covered portion. Once your nails are dry, carefully peel off the bandages and use cotton swabs and nail polish remover to sharpen the line as needed.

To get these cloudy nails, start with prepped nails and a base coat. Create a sky-like hue by using light blue polish . Next, use white polish to paint cloud-like shapes onto your nails. Finish everything off with a top coat.

Starfish Beach Nail Design:
Starfish is a beautiful sea creature but very dangerous. But you can easily enjoy them by incorporating them in your nail design. You can find many starfish nail stickers in the market. But what better when you can easily draw them with fine brushes. You dont need to paint every nail with starfishes. Just draw in 2-3 alternative nails. The nail designs look cute and lovely. Especially, for the coral starfish present in the admits of ombre bluish white beach.

- Start the nail design by applying a base coat to protect the nails
- Now apply a white coat of nail polish
- For the beachy water look, create an ombre effect in the white with blue.

Pretty Cloud Nail Design:
This nail looks funky and elegant too. You can easily pull it off with everyday wear. The white is vibrant teal and coral gives an illusion of long nails. However, you can customize the colors of your choice. But shades of blue and white are more preferred for creating the cloud nail design.

How Do I Learn Nail Art If No One Is Available To Teach Me
I am an apprentice in a natural nail salon. Sometimes I get requests for nail art. I would love to learn how to do different nail designs, but I am a beginner. I live in Virginia and there are never nail seminars or lectures or even hands-on classes here. Do you have any suggestions on learning nail art designs when there is no one in my area to teach it? Watching videos is good but sometimes you just need hands-on.
Answer
There are very few people that last 25 years in this business like I have, and I do not believe you need hands-on instruction to learn nail art. I have only had one three-minute hands-on experience , and the only thing it did for me was spark my desire to go to school.
I do believe you need to have two things as an apprentice: determination and desire. Determination will keep you up until 3 a.m. practicing your designs, and the desire to be a great nail tech will keep you going. I have taught hands-on classes for many years. I have done tutorials for YouTube for 2.5 years. Being a teacher in both mediums, I will say that I cannot answer how badly the nail tech wants to succeed but how badly she wants it is exactly how good she will get.
I cannot tell you how many nights I was up learning how to make a perfect French manicure or trying to perfect a striping brush technique, but I will say that in the end, it was worth it.

Navy Blue Stripes And Anchor Nail Design:
This nail design is inspired by the Navys uniform. The contrast of white and navy blue stripes creates a chic yet elegant look. The little glitter anchor in the ring finger breaks the monotonous stripes design. Also, the cute anchor adds more charm to the nail design. - After the nails dry, pull out the nails strips and coat the nails with clear nail paint.

About The Nail Care Program
Work in a salon or spa as a manicurist and launch a rewarding career in nail care. This career path offers real-world training in nail care, including hand and foot treatments, nail designs, and nail repairs. You will take classes specifically designed to help you pass both the practical and written portions of the California State Board of Cosmetology licensing examination for manicurists.

Ombre & Gradient Nails
Gradients are a great way to add a little extra flair to your nail art.
- Apply polishes using brushes. Dab on each colour while the polish is wet to blend the colours together.
- Apply polishes using a foam makeup sponge. Paint directly onto your sponge then dab onto your nails. Or paint your base colour and dab on other colours using your sponge.
I know some people also use Q-tips to create gradients. I haven’t had the best luck with that method though as little strands of cotton from the Q-tip always end up on my nails. I’m sure there are other methods of creating gradients, but these techniques have worked the best for me and are the most used.
