When To Use Glue On Laminate Planks

How to remove liquid nails from laminate flooring

Glue is actually sometimes used on laminate planks but not to fix it to the sub-floor, but to attach the planks to one another, by their tongue and groove members. This is usually done in areas that are prone to high moisture levels, or areas that are exposed to water. It helps make the surface more water resistant, and the glue will act as an extra barrier to prevent moisture from penetrating into the floors core.

In normal circumstances though, glue is not recommended to use.

When installing laminate on stairs, it is also normally glued down. since each step usually requires 1 or at most 2 laminate planks, gluing it down will not have any negative impact as when you glue it down to a larger surface area.

How To Install Laminate Flooring On Walls

  • Measure the length of the wall where the laminate will be installed and then lay out enough planks on the floor to begin the first row. Remember to leave 3/16 between the wall and the end piece for an expansion gap
  • Take the adhesive caulk and apply it on the back of your first board in an S like pattern to ensure good, even coverage across the board.
  • With the tongue-side towards the floor, take the plank and firmly press it against the wall. Make sure the extended groove faces up when the board is on the wall so you can lock the next row into place.
  • Take the nail gun and shoot a brad nail into the extended groove of each plank on each marked stud on the wall. Use enough air to make sure the nail doesnt protrude and interfere with the next row.
  • Repeat the process for the next board in the row and lightly use the mallet and tamp block to remove any gaps between the boards as you go. Complete the process to the end of the first row, and then check the run with a level so that you can make any adjustments before proceeding.
  • To start the second row, use a cut piece to keep the joints from lining up, and then angle the click-lock edges together before snapping the board into place. Use the block and mallet to lock the boards firmly in place before nailing and repeat this process until the project is complete.

andy men is spot on …small panel pins into skirting so the floor can move ..if you use no nails no guarantee you dont glue floor and skirting and then you will have trouble with warped laminate ,,,good luck

Nailing to the skirting allows the laminate to expand and contract and move beneath the scotia. The best effect is achieved by removing the skirting, laying the floor to the wall and re-fixing or replacing the skirting, to the wall only, not the laminate.

The use of nails is best… get yourself a resonable priced electric one that will fire them in for you.No more nails is an expensive waste of time.

I would say a pin gun but have you considered removing your skirting boards first?Finish will be far better with laminate fitted approx 10mm away from the wall with skirting on top.You could try and remove your existing skirting as carefully as possible so not to cause much damage and then re-fit it after flooring done but to be honest, new skirting would be much better if your budget allows.

    Hope this helps,
