Nail Depth And Jamming
Most finish nailers include a depth-adjuster dial. This dial allows the user to set the amount of force the gun uses when driving the nail into the wood. If the depth adjustment is too low, the nails head will protrude from the woods surface. If its set too high, the nail will embed too deeply into the wood.
Setting the nail depth too low can also cause a nail gun to jam. Jamming occurs when there is not enough force to drive the nail into the material, causing it to kick back into the nailers head. Most nailers allow the user to take the head apart to remove jammed nails.
Q Can A Finish Nailer Be Used For Framing
You cannot use a finish nailer for framing because they do not use large enough nails. The most powerful finish nailers are capable of shooting only 2.5-inch-long 15-gauge nails. Framing requires 3.5-inch-long 16D nails, which have a much larger gauge than finish nails. A framing nailer can fire these larger nails.
A Versatile Powerhouse For Your Shop
Text & Photos by Tom Hintz
Adding an air-powered nailer when your shop is on a budget means versatility, range of nail length and price are all important considerations. The Porter Cable DA250B 15 Ga. finish nailer meets those criteria and more. In terms of quality, ease of use and capability, the PC DA250B is going to be very tough to beat.

Brad Length And Capacity
Brads are made of approximately 0.05-inch-thick 18-gauge steel. Their small heads hide easily in the work surface. Often, you wont even need to fill the tiny holes they leave before painting.
Brad length varies from 0.5 inch to 2.5 inches, but few cordless brad nailers accommodate the full range of sizes. The required length typically depends on the intended tasks for the tool.
Brads come in collated strips, which makes them easy to load. Most cordless brad nailers hold around 100 brads at a time.

Dewalt Pneumatic Nailers: Construction Tools
What were most excited about in this line are some of the innovative features in the metal connection nailer . If this new line is a family, then the metal connecting nailer is the patriarch. Weighing in at 4.6 pounds, its designed to fit between 12 inch on center joists as well as other tight spaces and corners. It features an exposed tip design that DeWalt hasnt used beforevery different from the Paslode Strap nailer weve reviewed in the past. By exposing the tip of the fastener, user will be able to accurately place the nailer before firing.
All of the construction nailers and staplers are also designed to be lightweight, compact, and ergonomic while remaining durable.
Dewalt Cordless Nailer Review Overview
Pneumatic nailers have always been the power of choice when it comes to nailers. They are consistent, fire fast and reliable, but you do have to work with a cord and listen to a loud compressor. So with that said companies have been trying to break the cord but I think with little success.
Paslode has been the first successful company to offer a reliable, consistent nailer without the cord, but you do have to rely on fuel cells which have their own problems.
When it comes to a battery only nailer, I think the only logical choice is Dewalt. The Dewalt 16 GA nailer is a beast. Very reliable and very consistent with a pretty good rate of speed. So if you have used the 16 GA nailer, you will love the 18 Ga nailer as its the brother to the 16 GA nailer.

Dewalt Cordless Nailer Review Features
The Dewalt brad nailer is loaded with a ton of features that users will not only appreciate but enjoy using.
Dewalt designed the nailer with a brushless motor which means longer runtime and a longer running motor.
On the base of the nailer, a user can switch between sequential or bump.
Right behind the fire action is two LED lights that do a decent job of lighting up where you are about to fire your fastener.
Adjusting the depth is done with a dial on the side of the nailer. There is also a visual in order to see a rough estimate at where you set the depth.
On the side of the nailer, there is protection for the tool and for your work. Just in case you accidentally set the tool down on a finished surface, the rubber strips will protect it from leaving damage.
We didnt get the tool to jam but as you know it does happen. The good news is you can remove the jam without having to search for a tool. Just pull down the front and you have complete access to clear any obstruction.
On the side of the tool is a decent belt clip to hang it from your side or from something else when not in use.
The nailer is an 18 GA nailer that will run nails from 5/8 to 2-1/8.
In case the tool stalls you can easily reset the nailer in the front. No tools, no messing around.
As with most nailers, the nailer features a removable no-mar tip. As an added bonus you can store up to two more on the side of the nailer.

Dewalt Cordless Nailer Review Performance
You really cant ask for much more from a cordless nailer. Sure having a smaller footprint nailer would be great for those tight spots, but I just dont think technology has caught up for that to work out. If youre not getting into tight spaces on a regular basis, this is a great nailer.
The nailer is very consistent with the rate of fire and the depth of fire. We have tried other battery nailers where the first couple shots are consistent but it drops off after that when using at a high rate of speed.
Adjusting the depth of drive is easy and notice that even after driving a ton of nails, it still sinks them to the same depth without having to adjust the depth.
The overall body is wide but not compared to other battery operated nailers. If you are hitting baseboard under cabinets, this probably wouldnt be the nailer for you. If you have more room to work with, the overall size will not affect you or your work.
Full Line Of Dewalt Pneumatic Nailers Announced
From our friends in Maryland comes a new and complete family of DeWalt Pneumatic Nailers. To make sure that youre all in with the Yellow and Black on the jobsite, DeWalt also has a couple of compressors and their own line of fasteners to pair up. The new line boasts 11 tools ranging from 15 gauge finish nailers through framing and metal connection nailers and staplers. Each of these pneumatics from DeWalt is in the realm of their Guaranteed Tough series and is designed to be compact and light weight. Clint DeBoer and Mike Hurta were able to see these at the DeWalt Media Event last Wednesday and are already lining up models for review.

Dewalt Pneumatic Nailers: Finish Nailers
The big deal for DeWalts pneumatic finish nailers is the Precision Point Technology. Similar to the Bostitch SmartPoint nailer technology, this starts with a smaller nose that improves visibility and by extension, the accuracy in placing fasteners. It also eliminates the requirement to push against the work material, reducing the chance of damage during installation. All three weigh less than 4 pounds and are bump/sequential fire selectable.

How We Chose The Best Finish Nailers
When gathering our list of recommendations for finishing nailers, we looked at popular brands on the market to provide shoppers with a wide selection of pneumatic, electric, and gas options. All of our picks boast impressive power, with both 15- and 16-gauge options to choose from, most of which offer a toolless adjustable nail depth from 1 to 2.5 inches.
Weight and maneuverability were important aspects in our research for these power tools. As such, we took care to provide suggestions for finish nailers that are light enough to avoid user fatigue while also being powerful enough to drive nails fully into the desired work surface. This balance brought our attention to an array of models that should cover most users requirements. The most powerful options on our list tend to be slightly heavier, but the lightest models are still capable of getting the job done without frustration.

Dewalt Cordless Nailer Review Model Dcn680
Ten years ago who would have thought we would be sitting here talking about a cordless nailer? I know there are a lot of manufacturers who have cordless nailers, but I have to admit my favorite nailer is the Paslode lineup. Sure it takes fuel and a battery but the performance is very consistent, something I havent seen in a battery only model, well at least until I tried the Dewalt DCN660 finish nailer. So when I heard Dewalt has an 18 GA nailer available, I knew I had to try it, so lets jump into the Dewalt Cordless Nailer Review.
