Gently Push The Dip Off Your Nails
Once the dip loosens and begins to flake, take the metal pusher or orangewood stick and lightly scrape off the polish, starting from the cuticle area to the end of your nail. “The dip should come off without applying too much pressure on your nail bed,” says Monserrat Rodriguez, nail artist and owner of Shears and Laque nail salon in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

If you’re finding your gel polish hard to remove, make sure you have properly buffed your nails. Use a file to break the free edge – this will break the seal of the gel polish on your nails, making it easier to remove
Try not to leave the acetone on longer than 15 minutes as the acetone will begin to dry. This will cause the gel to re-harden and become much harder to remove from the nail.
Test a nail by removing the foil or wrap and use your cuticle pusher/stick to see if the gel is starting to come away. Most of the gel should have already started to crumble.
When the gel is starting to come away from the nail, carefully scrape at the gel to remove any excess from the nail. If theres still some stubborn gel clinging to your nail, take some new acetone/a new wrap and soak the nail for 2-5 more minutes.
File The Shine Off Your Gel Polish
You know that clear, glossy top coat you get at the end of your gel manicure to seal in your polish? It’s time for that to go. “Removing the top coat of your manicure will help accelerate the removal time,” says Nunez. “Youre essentially giving your remover a head start and one less coat to break down during the soak off time.”
Use a nail file to buff away the surface layer of manicure. When you think you’ve removed the last of your top coat, place your hand under a light and inspect your nails. Any remaining shiny patches will reveal where you still need to file. But heads up: If you start seeing spots of natural nail, you’ve gone too far. “You still want to see some color on the nails before you soak, to ensure you are protecting the integrity of your natural nails,” says Nunez.

Or Skip The Cotton And Foil And Soak Instead
This takes a bit longer, but works wonders if you don’t have any foil or cotton balls on hand. Grab two bowls from the kitchen, one slightly larger than the other. Fill the larger bowl with warm water, place the smaller one inside as you would with a double-boiler, and pour in some acetone. Allow to heat for a minute or two, then place your hand inside the acetone and allow the gels to gradually soak off.
You can also grab a gel removal kit like Red Carpet Manicure’s and Nails Inc.’s Gel-Less Gel Nail Polish Remover Kit that comes equipped with everything you need to remove a salon or DIY gel mani. Red Carpet Manicure’s kit includes ten foils with a cotton pad attached, while Ciate’s comes with conditioning acetone and a gel remover pot in which you pour the solution and dip your hand in.

Soak Your Nails In 100% Pure Acetone
There are two different ways you can soak your nails, but for either method, it’s essential that you use a 100% pure acetone nail polish remover. “I normally recommend using low-acetone or acetone-free nail polish removers, but these aren’t strong enough to remove gel formulas,” says Soon.
You can soak your fingertips in a small bowl filled with acetone, but Soon prefers to use cotton ballswhich are closer to your nails’ size and shape than cotton padssaturated with acetone. “This way, your fingers don’t have to be fully drenched, which can lead to incredibly dry skin,” she says. Place an acetone-soaked cotton ball over the entire nail, then wrap a piece of foil around your nail to hold it in place. Repeat this process on all 10 fingers.
Finish The Remaining The Gel Base Coat
After you are done peeling the gel polish off, there might be some gel base coat still remain on the nails. You have a choice here. Either you can leave it there or continue to soak your nails until you can safely peel, push or scrape it off.
Tip: adding some cuticle oil or cooking oil to the nails will loosen the small remaining gel basecoat spots so you can push them off easier.Wash and rinse off your hands with clean water.

How To Remove Acrylic Nails At Home
Acrylic nails are the artificial nails that adhere to your own nails underneath. You may be familiar with these occasionally pinging off which can give the false impression that removing acrylics at home will be easy-peasy. Unfortunately, its not quite so straightforward.
Simply applying some force to the acrylic nail in an attempt to remove it will only ensure that, even if you are successful, you take some of the natural layers of the nail plate with it. This is bad news and will result in brittle, thin and damaged nails which take ages to grow out. It requires a more careful approach to avoid damage.
If you really want to do it yourself, heres how to remove acrylic nails at home:
Start by filing the entire acrylic nail. Effectively, you need to try and file off as much of the artificial nail as possible from the upper layer down. For this, a basic emery board is ineffective. Youll need a sturdy and coarse nail file. Ideally you want to file though the upper layer of product down to the top of the acrylic itself. It can also be helpful to file the top of the nail to get it level with your natural nail underneath. This helps the next stage to work more effectively.
As you can imagine, this home removal process is quite harsh on your nails. We recommend following up with some cuticle oil and cuticle cream. Then give yourself at least a week before applying new acrylic nails.
How To Remove Dip Power Nails
If your last manicure was a powder dip, consider yourself lucky. Removal is simple. Just soak your fingers in pure acetone for about 20 minutes.
If you just sit there long enough, youll see the dip lift off, Ms. Logan said. Dip nails are just powder and glue. It will melt down in acetone. After it lifts, wipe off the excess with a towel and shape your nails. You can also file the topcoat of the dip powder before you soak to make the process a little faster.

What’s The Difference Between Gels & Acrylics
First things first, lets brush up your nail vocab.
Perfect for a natural-looking manicure, gel nails are achieved in three simple steps. A base coat, a polish colour and a top coat. In-between each stage, the gel is cured under an LED or UV lamp , to leave you with firm, non-sticky nails that shine. Gel nails tend to last around two weeks before they start to lift or chip, and only take half an hour to apply.
What about acrylics? Warning: things are about to get a little technical. For acrylic nails, monomer liquid and polymer powder are combined to create a paste-like formula. This formula is then placed over a cured acrylic extension and left to set. After shaping and buffing, the acrylics are normally painted with a polish of your choice. They tend to last up to four weeks and are perfect for those who want to add length to their nails.

Gel nails range in price based on the type of gel used, the permanence of the gel, the application process, and the caliber of the nail salon you are visiting. Think Of Gel Polish As Liquid Acrylics
Ever wonder specifically just how gel manicures remain so excellent for so long? The chemical make-ups for gel polish and routine nail polish vary with each brand, however, the significant distinction is that gel polish will only dry out under straight UV or LED light contact, while routine nail polish can broadcast completely dry, discusses star nail musician Yoko Sakakura. Gel gloss applications treat under a lamp, producing a hard layer of polish that makes it more resilient and also longer lasting. The removal procedure for gel gloss is more complicated as well, needing the nail to be soaked in acetone to appropriately liquify the formula off of the nail. Not only will they last much longer, but theyll look more difficult and also shinier while youve obtained em, too.
