How Do You Remove Dip Powder Nails

HOW TO DO YOUR OWN DIP NAILS AT HOME! *BEGINNER FRIENDLY*

Just like gels or acrylics, removing a dip powder manicure requires more time and patience than swiping remover on a cotton ball. There’s no easy way to remove dip powder nails quickly, says Zuniga. We recommend using an electric file and soaking off the remaining product with acetone, i.e., similar to gel nail removal. Of course, the best way to remove them is to go back to your nail tech otherwise you risk damaging and weakening your nails. If you are planning on removing dip powder nails at home, though, look to our step-by-step dip nail removal guide to ensure the least damage possible.

And no matter if you remove them at home or at the salon, you should try to give your nails some downtime in between to prevent them from breaking or becoming brittle. Zuniga’s advice? Invest in some good nail after-care products to rehydrate your nails and keep your cuticles moisturized. A few of our favorites include Essie’s Apricot Cuticle Oil and Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails Strengthener.

Color Club 21 Day Starter Kit For Nail Dip Powder In Mood Changing

Key selling points: While at first glance this looks like any other dip kit, this super-fun set comes with two powders that change color in the sunjust like those souvenir T-shirts you would get on vacation in the 2000s. Snag it before summers over.

What customers say: I love love love the colors! It is perfect, just like the other kits I have used of the brand. I was a little skeptical at first, but after all was done and said, it changed colors with hot/cold temps and looked amazing in action. The brush cleaner is very helpful, but I wish it would have included a top coat bottle like the rest of the kits. Britne, reviewer on amazon.com

How To Choose Between Dip Powder And Acrylic Nails

Before using the dip system, Aaron always likes to know what her clients long-term care wishes are for their nails. Does the client wish to be as natural as possible or would they care to extend the nails with tips? she muses. Are they okay soaking off with every visit? Do they want natural colored nails or a color polished look? These questions determine whether dip or acrylic is best. For clients that are accustomed to gel polish on their natural nails, Aaron says that an upgrade to the dip system is perfect. These clients are already used to soaking off every two to three weeks and with dip powder, it would be no different, she explains. For clients that are used to acrylic nails, I only suggest dip powder to them when its time for a new set. So when soaking off for a new set I begin the consultation by first looking at the condition of the clients nails and asking: Do you want to keep your natural nails and if so at what length? Depending on their answer, Aaron will recommend dip powder, as its typically gentler than classic acrylic.

An easy way to do your own dip manicures! If I can do it ...

The dip powder nail industry has exploded recently and there are so many companies selling powders and liquids.

Kiara Sky Starter Kit Kiara Sky is one of the big names in the dip nail community and they have a huge product line. Their dip starter kit is more expensive than most, more than double the cost of each of the kits listed below, but it comes with a full complement of liquids.

Modelones I impulse purchased a kit from Modelones on Amazon when long shipping times were making me anxious to get started. Modelones is affordably priced and their kits come with a number of useful items like a cuticle pusher, file, buffer, liquids, and a variety of dip powder colors. If youre just dipping your toe into dip nails, this might be a good place to start. However, there was a noticeable difference between Modelones and the next product on this list.

Revel Nails Revel is one of the first brands that I tried and I really love the quality of their powders and liquids. Its worth noting that Revel is experiencing some shipping delays

I love the quality of the powders from Sparkle and Co, but their subscription boxes are what set them apart. They have a variety of options for all budgets and their subscriptions often come with a few fun surprises!

My Journey To Learning How To Do Dip Nails

Well, let me tell you, finding the right products to do my own nails was VERY difficult. I had to spend the time trying things and then wait a week or two to see how they held up.

It was all smooth sailing. NOT!

I found it was actually quite hard to do professional nails from home when you have no idea what youre doing! Who knew!?

I tried many different products, different techniques, and finally came into a rhythm.

I have now been doing my own dip nails on my fingertips and gel nails on my toes for 3 years now.

Not only do my at-home nails look professional, theyre extremely cheap!

They really came out beautiful and have lasted me just like if I had gone to get them done! I definitely recommend this kit. You have everything you need to get a perfect manicure at home. I had tried using regular nail polish on my toes and fingernails, but that always chipped within a few days for me. The toes would last longer, but they werent shiny like gel and chipped too easily.

Everything You Ever Needed To Know About Dip Powder Manicures

HOW TO DO DIP POWDER NAILS AT HOME

A gel manicure that lasts two weeks is impressive, but one that can hold up for a whole month? Pinch yourself because youre not dreaming. Enter dip powder nails: a long-wear manicure that lasts up to four weeks without using a UV light to set the polish.

This manicure is perfect if you chip a nail every time you wash the dishes, or if youre worried that regular gel manicures are ruining your nails. Even though dip powders are having a moment right now because the process is totally grammable, the concept is nothing new. Dip powder manicures have been around for awhile, but they were formally dubbed glue manicures because of the adhesive thats used to help the powder stick to the nail.

The first step of a dip powder manicure is prepping the nail. This includes cuticle care, cleansing, and dehydration. That this is all done dry because the powder best adheres to dehydrated nails. After the cuticles are pushed back and the nail plate is clear, a dehydrating product like 99-percent alcohol is used to wipe nails clean. Next comes the actual dipping.

Once the dipping is done, the nails are buffed and filed down to a smooth finish, and a top coat is applied.

Youre probably thinking, But is it healthier than gel manicures?.

They are similar in that both provide an extra layer of protection to natural nails. As mentioned dip nails dont require UV/LED light and are typically a much quicker process to apply from start to finish.

Applying Sns Diping Powders At Home

Youll need a few simple tools and products to begin doing your own SNS dip powder nails. If you regularly do your own manicures at home then you might already have some of these.

What You’ll Need

SNS Dip Powder Application Steps

Before you apply your SNS dipping powders, make sure you have properly prepped your nails. Preparation is the key to any long-lasting manicure, so dont overlook it.

Now lets get dipping!

Step 1

Apply SNS Gel Base to ¾ of the nail plate and dip the nail into SNS Natural Set Dip Powder. Tap the finger and use your small nail brush to lightly dust the excess powder off and around the nail.

Repeat this step but this time apply it to the entire nail, avoiding the cuticle line. Do this for all 10 nails.

Step 2

Apply SNS Gelous Base polish to the nail, again avoiding the cuticle line. Then, dip the nail into your chosen SNS Gelous Color Dip Powder. Tap and then brush excess powder off the nail.

Repeat this step to build thickness or colour.

Step 3

Apply another layer of SNS Gelous Base to the nail, then dip the nail into SNS Natural Set Sheer Powder. Tap and brush excess powder off the nail.

Step 4

Brush SNS Sealer Dry onto each nail. This sets and hardens dip powder so try not to get it anywhere you dont want dip powder to adhere to!

Step 5

Buff each nail using the buffer block until you have a nice, even surface. Use a nail file to reshape the nails, if necessary.

Step 6
Step 7
Step 8

Regular Nail Polish With Gel Topcoat

  • Time: 15-20 minutes, but with a 24 hour wait time between regular and gel coats
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Lasts: 10-15 days

Ok, ladies. This does work, BUT there are some caveats.

You have to wait 24 hours after putting the regular nail polish on before you can add the gel topcoat. Also, it doesnt have the long-lasting effect that an all-gel nail will. It will by shiny and pretty like gel nails and will last longer than normal nail polish, but not nearly as long as an all-gel nail.

The gel topcoat will still require a UV light and 30-60 seconds to cure on each hand.

Paint On The Bonder & Brush On Resin

Tips and tricks of doing your own dip powder nails at home ...

Ive combined these two dip powder nail tips since they can be done quickly one after another. First, paint on the bonder in small strokes, and be sure to spread it out so it doesnt well up near the cuticle area. Let that sit for one minute before brushing on the resin. Apply the resin evenly, dotting with the belly of the brush applicator, rather than in strokes like nail polish. Focus on creating a clean edge just above the cuticle.

Pros And Cons Of Dip Nails

There are many, many pros and cons of dip nails that you want to be aware of before you get them done. I didnt know these pros and cons of dip nails before my first appointment and I definitely made a few mistakes during that.

Pro: Dip Nails Are Thick

My favorite part of dip nails is how thick they are. They dont chip or break easily and they almost always last until your next nail appointment, unlike gel nails.

Con: Dip Nails Can Be See Through

The first time I got dip nails done, I didnt realize how see-through they would be. They looked terrible!

I later realized that I chose a light color and didnt check to make sure the nail technician was qualified, so she didnt do enough coats using the dip powder. With lighter colors, youll need 3-4 coats.

Now, if Im seeing a new technician, I always ask if the color will be see-through before choosing it.

Pro: Dip Nails Are Inexpensive

I constantly get the question: how much do dip nails cost? The answer is very similar to gel nails. Generally, dip nails cost between $30 and $50, which is relatively inexpensive for a gorgeous manicure.

Con: Dip Nails Take A Long Time To Do

Sometimes, my nail technician needs over an hour to do my nails, especially if she needs to remove my old dip nails first.

Pro: Dip Nails Are Done At Most Salons

Because theyre growing in popularity, dip nails are now available at most salons.

Con: Salons Offer Less Dip Nail Colors

Pro: Dip Nails Are Less Damaging Than Acrylic Nails

Benefits Of Dip Powder Nails

DIY dip powder nails have been my go to nail for all of 2020. Due to the above reasons, Ive been doing my own dip nails for almost a year now.

I always get compliments on them. The nails are not brittle, nor do they chip. My nails actually grow extremely long with dip powder and dont get damaged whatsoever. In fact, I have the same long nails I used to have with acrylic tips, except they are my REAL nails! People are always shocked when I tell them theyre my actual nail.

My dip powder nails are shiny and they look professional, clean, and classy.
