Forming Acryl Acrylic Nails A Guide
How do you apply acrylic nail forms? In todays world, most people have access to a salon and most people want to have beautiful nails. The great thing about having beautiful nails is that people will comment on your appearance and ask if you have had them professionally applied or if you just got them cut.
While it is great that people ask this question because they notice how beautiful your hands and nails are, the best way to answer this question is to show them with your own hands.
You can start by taking a few minutes to gather your supplies and prepare your nails. You are going to need some clippers, acrylic file, Emery board, acrylic paint, nail polish, and hand lotion.
When you have all of your supplies, you are going to want to take your acrylics to your nail technician and start on your nails. What you are going to want to do is make a little spot on your nail with your acrylics.
This spot should be just slightly bigger than the top part of your nail. Next, you will take the acrylics and file your nails from the base of your nails up to the top of your nail and then file the top portion down while you are filing your nails.
After you have filed your nails, you are now ready to form them. You will take your hand and shape the part of the nail that you filed down.
This process will take about 10 minutes. Once you have formed your nails, cover them with the hand lotion and use the Emery board to rub your hands together to get them even and smooth.
How Should I Prepare My Nails For Powder Dipping
If you want good results, you need a good base.
Heres how to prepare your nails for dipping:
- Wash your hands well.
- Push back your cuticles and trim any excess skin.
- Buff the surface of your nails lightly to create a slightly rough texture. Use a buffing tool for this if you see any stripes or marks from buffing, youre being too rough!
- Apply a sanitiser.
- At this point, dont touch your face or your hair! If you do, natural oils will get on the nail surface and your powder wont stick as well.
- Once your nails and buffed and clean youre ready to start applying!
I know youre probably gonna wanna get your nails done as soon as possible, but dont be tempted to skip or rush the prep, your nails wont look as good and wont last as long.

Your Dip Liquids Are Low Quality
Dip liquids vary greatly from brand to brand. Many people dont realize that dip liquid kits are formulated specifically for the type of powder that a brand sells. While you can interchange dip liquid kits and use them from one brand to the next, you may not always get the results youre looking for. Quite frankly, some dip liquids are just higher quality than others.
If youve tried all our fixes above and still are having issues with your powder cracking,;consider switching dip liquid brands.;Look for 9-FREE or 21-FREE dip liquid brands that are healthy and high quality. It’s better to use a brand that has glass bottles instead of plastic, as your dip liquids will last much longer and resist spoiling.;

Sanitize Your Nails With Alcohol
Dampen a paper towel with alcohol or nail sanitizer. Rub the moistened towel over your nails and fingers from the closest knuckle to your cuticles, and then down towards your nails. This step cleans and dehydrates your nails in preparation for a dip manicure. Trust me, you dont want to seal in any bacteria or grime.
Dip Powder Nails With Tips
As I mentioned above, its very easy to add gel tips to dip nails if your nails are too short.
Gel tips are basically the new and better version of acrylic nails. If youre considering dip powder nails with tips, I 100% recommend gel tips.
The one downside of gel tips is how flimsy they are. Gel tips are incredibly easy to break, but they work perfectly with dip powder nails because the dip is so strong.
Using dip powder nails with tips will also give your own nails a chance to grow to the length you want, at which point you can stop using the gel tips.

Gently Scrape Off The Remaining Polish
For the scraping process, utilize the wooden cuticle pusher and scrape away from your cuticle bed toward the top of your nail. “If there is still dip powder on your nails, repeat this process again until it is fully removed,” Suga says. And be patient: “Don’t rush the removal process because you can damage your nail beds,” she warns. “Also, don’t ever rip the dip powder nails off, as you can cause severe trauma to your nails.”

Cut The Extensions And File Down The Color
Using the nail clipper, trim off any false tips until the length matches that of your natural nails beneath. Next, it’s time to deal with the nail color: Remember, you have layers of the resin and powder mix on your nails, so you will want to file down the color to make the removal process more manageable.
“In order to remove dip nails, it’s important to file the color down as much as possible,” Suga says, which will help facilitate the removal process using acetone. “Make it very thin so that the acetone can soak through quickly,” she advises. “If you are familiar with using an e-file, it’s an even better option to speed up the process.”
Note: E-files or nail drills, often used by professionals, can damage your natural nails. If you aren’t versed in the process, opt for a traditional nail file instead.
How To Do Dip Nails At The Salon
If youre getting dip nails at the salon, expect the process to take about an hour.
Youll want to be very specific with your nail technician about:
- The color you want
- The shape you want
- The length you want
- The shine you want
The more specific you can be, the better! I also recommend looking at Google reviews ahead of time.;

The Buff And Fill Method For Cracked Dip Nails
This is the most common fix for cracked dip nails. If the crack happened beneath your top coat, you’re going to need to buff the surface away so that you can reach the crack. You can either use a nail file or a drill for this. Once you’ve removed the top layer you can apply your base coat over the crack and dip your finger in the same color again.;The layer will become uneven–don’t worry about this. Apply activator and let the layer dry before buffing it smooth. Then apply a thin layer top coat over the entire nail. Tada! Good as new.
Cracked Dip Nails Are Annoying But Not Impossible To Fix
One small mistake can make all the difference when it comes to applying your dip nail powder properly. Try making small adjustments to narrow down why your dip nails are cracking. Once you find the problem, youll be kicking yourself that you didnt find it sooner!

They also give you the ability to create various different designs and patterns. You can use a nail file and even a pumice stone to help you remove the extra design and then reapply the acrylic powder.

How To Remove Powder Dip Nails At Home With Acetone
In this method, you will be soaking your nails in pure acetone, so it might cause some skin irritation. If you have sensitive skin, this method is not recommended for you.
Step 1: Use a nail file to buff away the top coat of your nails.
Step 2: Take a bowl and fill it with hot water. Make sure that the water is not so hot that you cant dip your fingers in it. Just heat it up for a minute or so in the microwave.
Step 3: Place two smaller bowls inside the hot water bowl. You should be able to dip all your fingertips into the small bowls.
Step 4: Soak some paper towels in acetone. You should have enough paper towels to be able to soak all your nails in the bowls. Make sure they are not dripping with acetone, but are adequately soaked. Place the acetone-soaked paper towels in the two smaller bowls.
Step 5: Soak your nails in the acetone-soaked paper towels. Let them soak for at least 10-15 minutes as this will help remove the powder and adhesive coating from your nails.
Step 6: Use the paper towels to wipe off the remaining powder polish. If there is any residual powder left, you can remove it with your nail file.

Many Salons Don’t Carry The Treatment Due To Sanitation Concerns
“A huge risk for dip nail manicures is sanitation. It is incredibly unsanitary for multiple clients to dip their fingers in the same container of powder, even pouring the product over multiple clients nails and allowing the product powder to fall back into the container is an easy way for nail infections to be passed between clients. If you notice techs applying the dip powder in either of those ways, LEAVE and go to a different salon.”
