Selecting Fake Nails And Nail Glue

  • 1Select a set of full-coverage press-on nails. Quality does make a difference in the overall look and longevity of your nails to a certain extent, but don’t feel the need to splurge. You can pick out an inexpensive set, especially if you’re experimenting with different looks. Choose a set that covers the whole fingernail, not just the tips.XResearch source
  • A cheap set of nails that’s well cared for will last longer than a more expensive set if you don’t maintain it properly.
  • 2Pick fake nails that match the width and curve of your natural nails. The fake nails in press-on sets come in multiple widths from 9 to 18 mm . Measure your natural nails to see if yours are on the narrower or wider sides of the spectrum, or somewhere in the middle. Try to find fake nails that mimic the curve of your fingernails, whether they’re mostly flat or have a pronounced arch.
  • Place a tape measure or ruler across the widest part of your nail to gauge the width.
  • The nail size is often printed on the back of the nail. Once you find the right sizes for each fingernail, write them down or make a note in your phone for future reference!XResearch source
  • Shorter press-ons can be just as stylish as long, pointy talons. They’ll be more durable and practical for everyday wear.
  • You’re less likely to risk having a short fake nail pop off when you do your laundry, for instance. But it’s easy to get a long nail caught on something, especially if you’re not used to having long nails.

How To Get Rid Of Press

Eventually, you have to get rid of the press-on nails. Never pull on your falsies to get them off. This can cause severe harm to your nailsand its extremely painful. There is more than one method of removing your press-on nails. Below are some of the common methods in the removal process.

    1. Acetone Method

This is sometimes called the double boiler method. Fill a bowl with hot water. Place a smaller bowl filled with acetone in the larger bowl. The hot water should warm the acetone up. Once the acetone is warm, place your hands in it for 5 to 10 minutes. The false nails should come off or become weak enough for you to pluck them out effortlessly. Acetone can cause severe drying of the skin. Therefore, it is important to moisturize your skin at the end of this process.

    2. Cuticle Oil Method

While cuticle oil is generally used to moisturize your fingers and nails, it can also act as a removal agent for press-on nails. Use tweezers to pry open an edge between the press-on nail and your natural nail. Apply a few drops of your cuticle oil in the opening as well as all the areas under your press on. Give the oil some time to do its work. Rock the nails back and forth to know when they are loose enough to pull out.

    3. Buffer Method

This might seem a bit crude, but it works. You can use a buffer to file away the press on nails when every other acetone-free method fails. Just be careful when you feel you are getting close to your natural nails, so you dont harm them.

Apply The Nail Glue To The Center Of Your Natural Fingernail And Not The Press On Nail Itself

HOW TO MAKE PRESS ON NAILS LAST LONGER!

From my experience, applying the glue this way stops you from applying too much glue, which may lead to spillage. To make your press-on nails last long, you need to use enough glue to cover your entire nail where it meets the press on but not too much as it may cause air bubbles.

When placing the false nail, align close to your cuticle without letting it get onto your skin. Im using the glue that came with my press on nails.

When wearing press-on nails, it is possible to make them last for as long as three to four weeks, and for some maybe even a month. Lets go through the steps to make this happen for you.

    How To Remove Press

You can take off press-on nails without damage without much difficulty if you just follow a few easy steps. The one thing you should never do is try to physically pull them off.

    How You Remove Press

While press-on nails are less likely to leave your nails damaged, when compared to gels or acrylics, it’s still important that you’re gentle when you take them off.

What not to do? If a fake nail has one side coming loose, don’t tear it off. “Never ever pull of a nail tip,” says Edwards. “This will surely damage the nails.”

Instead, soak your nails in an acetone-based nail solution with baby oil. Edwards swears by a mess-free kit like KISS Quick Soak Off Removal System. It includes soak-off caps and nail-shaped pads. “Just add baby oil, which helps lift product off the nail and prevents dry skin, she says”

Size Your Nails For The Perfect Fit

    How To Make Press

If you find that you cant find the perfect size for your nail, go for one slightly larger and file it down to your nail size .

Pro-Tip: Size one hand and reference the number under the nail to find duplicates in the pack for your other hand!

    6. Buff/file the inside of the press on nail .

I consider this somewhat of an advanced tip. However, it helps depending on the style of the nail. Using a buffing block, file, or filing machine, filing the inside of the nail helps get rid of the shine on the false nail allowing it to adhere to your natural nail better.

Since Im applying jelly style nails, Im skipping this step because they are translucent, and I dont want that showing through the nail.

First of all let me tell you, this was one of the most stressful parts of this whole new press on nails venture. It almost held me back from launching in the first place because I couldn’t find anything cute enough and Ive also never shipped stuff before and that type of stuff stresses me out because I always think Im going to do something wrong.

So when I first launched I displayed the press on nails in a line on strips of a paper bag. I used a putty as adhesion, only because I didnt want a tape to show. Then I printed sheet after sheet of instructions on my printer and had to cut each individual sheet out which added so much time. When I sent the press on nails out, I got feedback that the putty was hard to get off from the press nails and that it turned sort of gummy. So I had to quickly turn around before the next launch two weeks later and figure out a different way to send them.

Pictured: How I originally displayed and sent my press on nails. Cute and crisp for pictures, but not consumer friendly.

My second round was a little bit of a last minute panic and I just decided to put the press on nails in a little hand folded pouch out of my tissue paper scraps with one press-on nail displayed on the outside. Also cute, but not the wow factor I wanted and omg SO much work to fold those cute lil baby pouches.

Obviously there will be a little bit of damage as you are putting glue on your nail beds. But it is nowhere NEAR the damage I used to experience when doing gel manicures. My nails are not thin and weak after press on nails and once I file off any excess glue, they are relatively back to normal! I am usually able to go from one set to another without any issues.

If I do give my nails some time to breathe I just pop on some OPI Nail Envy in between sets.

    Use Nail Glue Remover

Clean the glue on your natural nail with some cotton balls soaked in acetone. Apply adhesive tape on the glued parts and wait for about 15 minutes. Take off the tape and soak the nails in acetone to remove adhesive residue. This method is easy and convenient. However, it can damage your nails if not done the right way.

What Are The Benefits Of Press

    • First of all, press-on nails are extremely affordable! Prices average at about $8 per set, though you can certainly dish out closer to $20 for a set of Static Nails.
    • It takes me less than 10 minutes to prep my nails and apply the falsies which makes getting ready for an even a snap Having said that, you might take longer the first couple of times, but not by much.
    • They leave my nails healthier than before
    • They are super-duper easy to remove without causing any nail damage.
    • My favorite thing about press-on nails though is the wide variety of designs and colors to choose from.

Choosing The Right Nail Kit And Glue

Using your desired press-on nails or kit carefully size them to fit each nail and arrange them in order, prior to gluing. Ensuring that your press-on nails fit properly and are durable will help your press on nails to last. It is also best that you use an effective nail glue, rather than any glue strips or stickies that are often included in the kits. Unfortunately, adhesives that are included in most kits are not strong enough to make your nails last, or even prevent them from popping off at the least.

Choosing the right nail kit and glue is the secret to maintaining your press on nails for longer. KISS products are commonly recommended for long wear.

    Ways To Make Your Press

Guide To Press On Nails: Description, Tips and Ideas ...
  • Make sure your nails are totally clean before applying your press-ons so that dirt, oil, or other debris doesnt prevent the glue from fully adhering the press-on to your real nail.
  • Apply your glue with how long you want your press-on nails to last. If youre hoping to switch up your nail look just for the weekend, Frank says to only use a couple of drops of glue if you want your press-ons to last for a week or more, cover your entire nail in glue.
  • Opt for shorter nails. As fun as long coffin, stiletto, and almond-shaped nails are, the longer the length, the more likely theyll be to snag on something and accidentally pop off.
  • Consider using a different glue than the one that comes in your kit. Some of the top-reviewed nail glues include KISS PowerFlex Max Speed Glue and Mia Secret Nail Glue .
  • Skip baths or just remember not to submerge your nails underwater. Since press-ons are designed to come off with just soap and water, letting them sit under soapy suds for long periods can shorten their wear.
