Some people may develop allergic reactions to the dip powder, such as itching, swelling, or discolored skin.
Do only one dip nail to check whether youre prone to an adverse reaction. Apply the regular nail polish to the rest of the nails.
Allow for seven days to pass to see if any symptoms appear. Avoid using dip powder and choose another type of nail manicure if they do.
3. Give Your Nails Time To Recover
Applying acetone to your nails removes the nail color and removes the protective outer layer of the nail. It can inadvertently dry up the nail over time.
Keeping the nail saturated with acetone can also cause peeling and cracking of the nails.
To protect your nails, give them some time to recover by giving up on any types of manicures for a month.
However, this doesnt mean you need to give up on nail polish in the meantime.

The Uv Light Method For At Home Dip Nails
You can either apply a no-wipe gel top coat, or a matte top coat. Both our gel top coat and matte top coat require a UV light to cure.
A no-wipe top coat is nice because you dont need to wipe it down with alcohol after curing it .
How to apply your gel or matte top coat over dip powder.
Brush your top coat over all your nails as you would applying regular polish. Be sure not to get any on your skin . Seal the ends of your nails as well. This will help keep your color intact.
Put your nails under a UV/LED light for around 30 seconds. Some lamps are stronger than others, so your time may vary. For us, its around 15-30 seconds.
Note: Gel top coats are a little tricky to use with dip powder, because if you donât apply it correctly, the top coat can peel off. A little trick weâve found is to apply a thin layer of dip base before applying your gel top coat. This will help it stick better and last longer!

Put Down Your Base Coat
First, wipe again with alcohol and put a coat of Bond Aid on your whole nail. Oil and moisture is your enemy you want the nail as dehydrated as possible before starting.
Put a coat of Pro Base over the whole nail and let dry.
Then, add another coat of Pro Base to each finger, and while wet, dip each nail in Revel’s Vivien . This gives the nail a nice base and creates a little thickness.
Brush off excess powder from skin around nails and surface of nails with a light brush. This is one I use from one of my kids old geology sets , but you can get a similar one here.
This guy is another one of my secrets for a great manicure. I use that pointy end to go around cuticles after each and every layer of dip to remove excess powder. This step is incredibly important!
Using the pointy tip, kind of grab inward on your cuticle and sweep out any excess powder. There shouldn’t be a huge gap between your cuticle and your dip once you’re finished, but a tiny one makes sure your dip doesn’t pool in your cuticles .

Most dip nail liquid systems use this method of application. It does not require a UV light to apply and is frequently referred to as the âdip top coatâ application method. What many people donât realize is that the base dip liquid step is the same exact liquid as a dip top coat. Our Fairy Glamor system does not have a dip top coat because you can use the dip base as a top coat if you do not want to use the UV method.

Dip top coat and gel top coat both have their pros and cons. Gel top coats tend to be glossier and shinier than dip top coats and take less layers to look pretty. Dip top coats tend to take around 2-3 layers to get a glossy effect. However, dip tip coats are great if you are worried about exposing your skin to UV rays. Dip top coats also tend to stick better to dip powder, and last longer than gel top coats.

What Are The Benefits Of Getting Dip Powder Nails
Durability might be the biggest pro of dip powder nails. According to Russell, dip manicures generally dont chip or display breakage the way more traditional mani methods do. Its a great option for someone who works with their hands a lot or doesnt have the time to dedicate to weekly manicure maintenance, says Russell of dip powder nails.
Of course, exact results will vary based on your daily activities nothing can disrupt fresh tips quite like dish washing or weight lifting, as examples. For Syreeta Aaron, LeChat Nails educator and salon owner, how quickly your nails grow also affects the longevity factor here, but that natural nail growth is also a potential benefit of dip, too. The application of dip helps grow out your natural nails without the use of acrylic monomers or curing in UV lamps, says Aaron. Dip manicures give strength to the natural nails and a nice, even color application that does not fade.

For the scraping process, utilize the wooden cuticle pusher and scrape away from your cuticle bed toward the top of your nail. âIf there is still dip powder on your nails, repeat this process again until it is fully removed,â Suga says. And be patient: âDonât rush the removal process because you can damage your nail beds,â she warns. âAlso, donât ever rip the dip powder nails off, as you can cause severe trauma to your nails.â
Soak Your Nails In An Acetone Bath
Before you soak your nails in acetone, nail artist Amy Le has a tip to help protect your skin: rub petroleum jelly on your fingertips and into your cuticles, avoiding your nail bed. “This will help prevent the skin around your nails from drying out,” she says.
Next, pour the acetone into a bowl and place both hands in, fully submerging each nail . In order for the dip powder to loosen, you will need to soak your nails for at least 10 to 20 minutes, says Le. A good indicator you’re done: the dip should flake off easily. If it doesn’t, she suggests soaking your nails for an additional five to seven minutes. Remember: patience is your friend during the removal process.
