DIY How To Do Your Own Acrylic Nails At Home

I realize there are some people who arent into going all out with design, fimo etc. Some just want a pretty, natural nail. I love that style as well. So I set out to see just how natural nail forms could look. I was very happy with the results.

First attempt: Semi-transparent natural nail tip with clear acrylic in a nail form. I polished just the tips with Sally Hansen Disco Ball.

For my second attempt I used a traditional nail tip and overlayed with natural acrylic on the tips and soft pink on the nail beds. Again, applied with nail forms. This gave me a different natural look with more pink and it was a little bit stronger than the first try. However, both looked great and even more natural than what I usually received at the nail salon.

Step : Let The Acrylic Dry

  • Finally, leave your hand still for next 8-10 minutes so acrylic sets and harden.
  • Try to test by tapping the brush end on the nail. If all went well, then you should hear a knocking sound.
  • TIP: Do not just leave the brush after you are done. Clean it well with acrylic liquid if you plan to use it the next time or its ruined!

Thats it, the hardest part is over. Now just a little finishing touch is required which is covered in the next and final part of this tutorial.

Artificial Nails: Dermatologists’ Tips For Reducing Nail Damage

Hiding damaged nails might worsen problems

Covering up brittle, soft, or damaged nails can worsen existing nail problems.

Artificial nails can lengthen short nails, making your fingers look long and slender. They can also be hard on your nails.

To get acrylic nails to stick, the surface of your natural nails must be filed until they feel rough. This thins your natural nails, making them weaker. Chemicals in the products used to apply artificial nails can irritate the skin around your nails and elsewhere.

The list of health risks doesnt end here. To remove artificial nails, you often need to soak in acetone or file them off. If you want to wear artificial nails for more than a few weeks, youll need touch-ups every 2 to 3 weeks to fill in the gaps that appear as your nails grow. Frequent touch-ups can seriously damage your natural nails.

In short, artificial nails can leave your nails thin, brittle, and parched.

Still, some people love the look of artificial nails. If youre one of them, these tips from dermatologists can help you reduce the damage:

When youre not wearing artificial nails, a regular or French manicure can leave your nails looking fabulous.

How To Remove Acrylic Nails At Home

It is highly recommended to go back to the nail technician or salon where you got your acrylic nails done to have them removed. After all, the professionals are the ones that are most experienced in knowing exactly how to soak off acrylic nails and file them down in an efficient manner. However, sometimes going to the salon right away isnt possible and you absolutely need to know how to remove acrylic nails at home for one reason or another. If you must learn how to take off acrylic nails at home, you want to be sure you do it safely: Beauty experts at Makeup.com say your best move is to soak your nails into acetone until theyre totally soft and then file the acrylics off one by one. As you can imagine, these instructions about how to get acrylic nails off can take quite a bit of time to complete in real life. But its a much better method of removing acrylic nails than trying to pull them off manually. Overall, trying to learn how to remove acrylic nails without acetone or a file is a pretty bad idea. If you try to do that especially while your acrylics are still hard you can say hello to some seriously brittle and weak natural nails in the future. No one wants that!

Option : Acrylic Nails Starter Kit

This is the best kit you can buy if you want to. Look for no other.

Why not recommended? It will be a good bargain than buying all supplies separately. So only if you are low on budget then I would recommend going for starter kit but please notice that the quality of the products is not very good in these starter kits.

If you do not want to compromise with quality, please stay away from the starter kits and instead spend some more money to buy the best quality acrylics nails supplies separately. In the long run, they will be much better, healthy and also cheaper.

I have done a deep research to find the best nail supplies you can buy without giving a second thought. My recommendations are backed with hundreds of reviews by happy customers and these are the best brands you can get at fair pricing.

Preparation Of The Nail Bed

Doing My Own Acrylic Nails! *first time*

First, you need to prepare the nails. Preparing the nails before applying acrylics is essential to avoid lifting and to ensure that your manicure will last as long as possible.

Before you begin working on your nails take the time to ensure that your nails and tools are cleaned/sanitized. This will guarantee that you are not spreading bacteria and keeping your nail kit items in tip-top shape, helping them to last longer.

Make sure that your nails are dry before continuing.

Now that everything is clean, it is time to start working on your nails.

  • Use the cuticle pusher to gently push back your cuticles. Remember, we want the acrylic to stick to our nails and not our skin. Keeping the nails off of the skin will also prevent lifting.
  • Shape your natural nails to desired length and shape. If you are using tips, you may want to skip this step but we recommend shaping and trimming your nails even if using tips.
  • You then need to buff the nail using the buffing block to remove all shine from the nail. This will improve the adhesion of the acrylic nail.
  • Remove all dust from the surface using a lint-free cloth or clean fluffy old makeup brush.

    Putting On The Acrylics

    1. Apply The Tips To Your Nails

Firstly, you need to find the tip that is the right size for your nail. If the tip doesnt exactly fit you can file it down. Also, tips that are slightly smaller look better than tips that are slightly bigger.

Dab some glue on the bottom half of the tip and apply it to the bottom of your nail. Hold the tip down for 10 seconds to allow the glue to dry. Do this to all 10 nails then cut them to your preferred length.

    2. Prepare The Acrylic Materials

Pour the acrylic liquid and powder into separate acrylic dishes. Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area as the fumes from the acrylic are so strong.

    3. Add The Acrylic To The Brush

Dip the brush into the acrylic liquid and then push it all the way into the powder in the separate dish. When you do this make all the bubbles go away.

After that, brush it against the side of the bowl to remove excess liquid. Run the brush through the acrylic powder so that a small, moist ball collects on the end of the brush.

The small ball of the acrylic mixture should be moist and easy to spread. The small ball shouldnt drip off the brush.

    4. Applying The Acrylic To The Nail

Apply the small ball of acrylic to the bottom of the nail and bring the ball down to the very tip.

You can sculpt the acrylic by pressing the brush flat onto your nail and softly move the acrylic to smooth out bumps and to spread it out evenly.

    5. Now Let The Acrylic Dry

    Two: Choose Your Tips

How To Do Your Own Acrylic Nails

In the next step, youre going to get started with tip application.

I want to give you a few pointers on correct sizing for the tips you dont want to buy your tips too small and you dont want to have to push down or it will not be fitting right.

If your tips are too big, they are going to pop up if you try to glue them down.

Similarly, if your tips go past the nail on the sidewalls, it is going to cause irritation and not look very good.

Essentially, your tips will not look that great if they lift.

So its important when choosing your tips that you get the proper size, you want them to fit nicely when you place them down on your nail.

( are great because they come in ten different sizes and are relatively inexpensive.

Plus, you can always shape them if you wanted a more rounded tip.)

Take The Time To Research Salons

Not very many salons offer acrylics, which I was surprised to learn. When asked why that is, Yukaco says its because acrylics require a skill that some technicians dont have. Theyre a little difficult to apply compared with gel. Also, the smell of acrylics is very strong and overwhelming, and many small nail salons dont have proper ventilation. In other words, seek out a technician whos trained and experienced in acrylics.

Do Acrylic Nails Damage Your Nails

According to Thomas Knackstedt, MD, of Cleveland Clinic, most folks can use acrylic nails without it affecting the overall health of the natural nails. However, it is possible that some people can develop a contact allergy to dyes or glues used during the appointment. But if you dont get a reaction after the treatment, do acrylic nails damage your nails after you get them removed? As is the case with many beauty treatments, the part of the process that can actually be the most irritating is the removal of acrylic nails. If you take good care of your nails and keep them in generally good health, the irritation should be fairly minimal. That said, a few people might notice that their nails are particularly sensitive afterward and visibly brittle or discolored. If youre part of that population, you may want to consider alternate options for your next manicure. But if not, feel free to get those bad boys glued on especially if you have a special occasion coming up where its time to impress.
