  • Peel your chosen wrap from the top side, this is the side that will get filed away as excess.

  • Try not to touch the adhesive to anything before you put it on your nail to keep it as sticky as possible!

  • That said, our wraps have some crazy tech in them that lets you stick them down, pull them off, and put them down again – just in case you want to reposition them on your nail .

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips

Stretchability: Excellent. The wraps were pliable, and they were easy to trim with a nail file.

Application time: 20 minutes

Staying power: Good. My nails didnt start to grow beyond the wraps until day 11, when I noticed the wraps had started to fray around my cuticles.

Removal: Easy. I just grasped a frayed edge and gently pulled each wrap off in one piece.

Color note: These particular wraps white surface started to look a little dingy by the end.

How I Take Them Off:

Dashing Diva recommends adding a little cuticle oil and then peeling off, but Ive removed them without anything on and my nails were longer and prettier than when they started. When it hasnt been fine to just peel it off was when I had a salon gel manicure that was causing weak and peeling nails. These nail strips do have adhesive, so, I would recommend putting a barrier on first if your nails are in bad shape.

How To Apply Nail Wraps

Nail wraps do they work? Be A Fun Mum

Each Nail Wraps will be a bit different but how they are applied is roughly the same.

  • The first thing that you need to do is push back your cuticle
  • Now if you have the time you should buff your nails too this helps make the wraps last longer.
  • Next, proceed to clean your nails.
  • To clean your nails you can either use rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover.
  • Its essential to thoroughly clean your nails before applying the wrap.
  • If you apply the wrap onto a nail with dirt, it would cause the wrap not to adhere well.
  • Once the nails are cleaned and dried you can proceed to apply the nail strips.
  • To do so open up the package and remove the wraps.
  • Then you need to organize each nail strip with their corresponding fingernail size
  • Now once you have them paired off, peel off the plastic on the design side of the wrap and then remove the back cover.
  • Now proceed to position the nail strip over your nail and firmly paste it on.
  • Finally, remove the excess material on the front of the nail using a nail file.
  • You can see how its done in the video below

In this video, she uses the Sally Hansen brand which is a really good brand but sadly has been discontinued, the process of application is the same for BornBeauty and most other brands.

What Is A Nail Wrap An Investigation Of The Nail Sticker

From carefully painting onto your nails using your nondominant hand to waiting around for the polish to dry, executing an at-home manicure can be a hassle. Thats theoretically where come in handy. But what is a nail wrap, exactly? This stretchy, nail-shaped sticker is decked out in an elaborate design that wearers could never paint on themselves, and its rumored to resist chips for 10 days or longer.

It sounds ideal: stick a decal onto your nails and enjoy a cute manicure for more than a week. Yet, when I tested two nail-wrap styles, the actual process turned out to be a little more complex. Heres what I learned about the nail stickers:

What Are Nail Wraps Made Of

One of the biggest questions asked is what are nail wraps made of and if theyre *insert vegan, cruelty free, 3-free, etc*. Nail wraps can be made of either vinyl or nail polish. Typically strips that are made of vinyl and an adhesive base are called nail wraps whereas nail polish strips and made of mostly nail polish without adhesive. However, the nail wrap title gets tossed around for all strip-type nail enhancements.

The basic ingredients of nail wraps and strips include: N-Butyl Acetate, Polyacrylic acid, Styrene/lsoprene Copolymer, Hydrogenated Poly, Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Neopentyl Glycol/Trimellitic Anhydride, Triethyl Citrate, Cellulose Acetate Butyrate

NailsMailed has a great little article about the basic ingredients of nail wraps what theyre used for and what other products you can find them in. Essentially, all these ingredients are solvents and plastics/polymers that bind together to form the film of nail polish that we apply as a wrap.

I find it very difficult to find ANY nail wraps that are made of dibutyl phthalate, toluene, and formaldehyde which are the 3 big ingredients that have some undesirable traits. Because of this, I wouldnt be concerned about using nail wraps unless youve had an allergic reaction to liquid nail polish or other nail wraps in the past. And its always best not to eat your nail wraps.

For a list of the exact ingredients of nail wraps for each manufacturer, please see their specific packaging or website.

Don’t Just Stick Them On

According to Los Angeles-based manicurist Holly Falcone, you should always start with a fresh base. Wash your hands, remove any old polish, and wipe down your nails with acetone. Then, size your stickers by trimming the wrap down to fit your nail. Most stickers come pre-sized for each of the five fingernails, but that doesn’t mean you have to use them on the assigned nail.

“Apply the sticker as close to your cuticle as possible, then use your other fingers to pat it down,” she tells Allure. “Finish by filing off any excess wrap, and then blow-dry the nails to adhere the sticker to the nail to ensure they don’t move.” For extra security, apply a top coat to seal in the sticker. Right now, I’m loving Revlon Ultimate Shine Top Coat, because it gives off such a shine, it almost looks wet. Plus, it’s $7 and can be picked up from the drugstore while I’m out grabbing essentials.

Want to learn how to make your nail wraps last longer? Treat them right, and nail wraps should last you at least a week if not longer. With these tips on how to make nail wraps last longer, they will quickly become a staple in your beauty routine.

  • Prep your nails by giving them a once over with polish remover. This helps to ensure than any traces of polish, lotion, or natural oils on your nails are gone. These can prevent the wraps from sticking as long as they should.
  • Follow the package directions perfectly. Theres a reason that they have instructions for how to prep your nails. Just like with a regular polish manicure, oils on your nails could prevent the wraps from sticking.
  • Apply a base coat. The package directions should advise you to apply a base coat to your nails. If they do not, you should do this. It gives the wraps something to adhere to.
  • Apply a top coat. Once the wraps are in place, trimmed and filed down as needed, finish with a top coat. I find it helps to apply an extra coat on the tips of my nails.
  • My personal preference when it comes to nail wraps is NCLA. Their wraps are cruelty free, vegan, and come in a wide range of styles.

    • Patterns with light colors hide wear much better than solid or dark colored designs.
    • Metallic wraps are more finicky to apply, the edges lift more quickly so manicures don’t last as long, and they are a pain in the neck to remove because the metallic part sticks to the nail.
    • If you have very curved nails use a tweezer to hold wraps while applying them so you can gently stretch them and avoid buckles.
    • If you use oil to remove your wraps, wait at least an hour before applying a new set of wraps.
    • Avoid immersing new manicures in water for an hour.
    • Give your nails a break every month or so by going a few days without wraps on them.

Be gentle when removing fake nails, meaning dont rip them off .

If you used self-stick nails, you can simply soak your fingertips in warm, soapy water for about five to 10 minutes then gently start lifting the artificial nails. For glue, however, you will likely need acetone to break it down, according to Marton. She recommends adding a drop of oil or rich cream onto your hands to regain moisture immediately after using acetone.

Again, these nails were not designed to last long, so they should come off fairly easy just be gentle in your process, Marton said.

    How To Use Nail Wraps

Now that you know what nail wraps are, how do you use and apply them? There isnt much to the process, but it does take some practice to get it perfect.

The first step in how to use nail wraps is always prepping your nail. If you neglect this part or dont do it well enough it can affect how well your nail wraps adhere and last. And its always better to get your nails into the shape you want BEFORE applying your wraps.

Nail wraps offer many size variations because everyones nails are shaped differently. This gives you a lot of variety to find the right fit, but youll have to size up the strips on your nails before you peel them off so you know which ones to use. You can always put a piece of tap over the nail, outline your cuticle with a sharpie and then put it up against the strips to see which one would work.

Then peel the strip off the paper backing and apply to the nail, keeping in mind to not get the strip on the cuticle/skin. Fold the excess strip over the nail and file it off. I find it easier if I clip off most of the excess with a nail clipper before filing. If you want, finish it all off with a good clear top coat to seal it all onto the nail.
