After your nails have soaked for 15 minutes , slide the aluminum foil and cotton off one finger with a twisting motion. The polish should look like its falling off the nail and be fairly easy to remove, says Soon. If its still stuck to the nail, wrap it back up and let it soak longer. Use a wooden cuticle pusher or orange stick to gently lift any remaining bits of residue off the nail plate, and repeat the process until you have polish-free nails.

How To Take Off Your Gel Nail Polish

You will need a little patience when its time to soak the gel nail polish off. Its similar to when you are soaking your nails at the salon it takes a while. For this step, you will need small pieces of foil wrap, acetone, and cotton balls. Get a cotton ball and soak it in acetone. Second, put the cotton ball on your fingernail and wrap the foil paper around your fingernail. This way the foil paper holds the cotton ball in place. Next, get a warm or hot towel and place it over the foil wraps the heat from the towel helps the gel nails to soak off faster.

The acetone will remove the gel, acyclic and dip nails. Wait for 15 to 20 minutes for your entire hand to be ready for buffing, which is the next step. Sometimes you may have to re-soak the cotton ball and apply it again to your nails if the gel nail polish did not remove on the first try or its not going away with filing or buffing.

The Hair Spray Method

4 Ways to Take off Nail Polish on Skin

Acetone is generally the most effective nail polish remover, which is why its the primary, if not sole, ingredient in most removers. However, if you understand how this process works, youll see that many household items can actually work for removing nail polish without remover. The short version is, any household products with sufficient alcohol content will function as a solvent for the nail polish, dissolving the nail color and ingredients in the polish itself, which makes it easy to simply wipe off. If youre lacking a bottle of remover, check the ingredients on your hair spray bottles. Most of them will contain alcohol, and as a result, should be able to dissolve the polish quite easily.

The only drugstore label of the bunch, its by far the best value and worked on par with the others when it came to the glitter: I made it through three fingers before I had to get a new cotton pad. The scent was pleasant and my nails werent super-dry. A good option to stock up on if you arent afraid of using acetone-based removers, but it will dry out skin.

Gently Scrape Away The Layers And Soak Again If Needed

Once you give the acetone time to work its magic, grab the file and continue to gently scrape the layers to safely remove the gel polish from your nail. If youve soaked long enough, the first few coats will begin to peel off easily.

If you encounter more resistant layers, youll need to loosen them up with another acetone soak. Repeat the soaking-and-scraping method until youve safely removed all of the color, including the base coat.

Alcohol Saves The Day

Its not shots time Ill tell you that. Believe it or not, alcohol can be a great substitute for a nail polish remover. Rubbing alcohol, not even that it destroys the nail polish, but can also kill the bacteria that you have on your hands, as well as underneath the nails. Besides using rubbing alcohol, you can also use hair sprays, perfumes and even deodorants. Just be careful when using it. Since alcohol is very strong you will definitely feel it on your hands, and especially if you have any type of a wound. So heads up for that. When you start removing the nail polish, spritz your alcohol on your nails. Immediately work your way with a cotton ball and wipe off the nail polish. Later on make sure your hands are properly washed, dried and moisturized. As you probably know alcohol can dry out your hands and nails.

The Winner: Priti Remover Wipes

Here

The wipes fared much better than the Priti bottle I liked, leading me to the conclusion that removing glitter is also about what type of pad you use and not just the type of polish remover. One packet got through five fingers and left my nails nicely moisturized. I also feel better that they are made from soy and lemongrass oil, which worked well, instead of pure acetone. To justify the cost, I would save these purely for glitter polishes and use more inexpensive removers for regular lacquers.

How To Remove Nail Polish Easily

I love painting my nails, but I hate having to remove it later. Especially glitter-based and darker polishes – they’re so tough to get off! I always ended up picking at the last bit of polish and damaging my nails, so I knew I needed to try something else.

After a lot of googling, I found a few solid options and tested them out. I found the winning method on gingerbreadmanne and it was so fast and easy to do I just can’t get over it. 😀

Removing your polish this way takes much less effort and won’t damage your nails like scrubbing at them will!

Also: this is incredibly useful if you have psoriasis like I do – my thumb nails have fairly large horizontal ridges that tend to trap polish between them, and this makes removing it much easier!

If this method doesn’t work for the polish you’re wearing, there’s another option. Try scoochmaroo’s “how to remove a gel manicure” instructable for more info.

Filing Off The Nail Gels

  • 1Trim your nails. Use a nail clipper to clip off the part of the nail that extends past your finger. Trim them as short as possible. If they are too thick to cut with a nail clipper, use a course file to file them down.
  • 2File down the surface of the nails. Use a coarse-grit file between 150 and 180 grit. File gently and in crosshatches to keep the work even, moving the file to different areas so that you dont feel a burning sensation in one place.XResearch source
  • The filing process might take a long time. Resist the urge to work quickly or unevenly, which can damage the natural nail underneath.
  • Wipe dust away frequently. This will allow you to clearly see how much more gel there is to go before you hit natural nail.
  • 3Look for signs that you are close to the natural nail. You don’t want to keep filing once you get down to the natural nail, since you could damage it. Signs that you’re close to the natural nail include the following:
  • A big reduction in dust that is produced from filing the gel.
  • Visibility of the natural ridges in your nails.
  • 4File the remaining gel with a finer-grit file. Work slowly and gently to make sure you don’t file the surface of your natural nail. Though damage is hard to avoid when working with regular gel nails, working gently will minimize it. Continue until the gels have been completely filed away.XResearch source

How To Remove Gel Polish Using Aluminum Foil

    Thingsyou need:

    • Orange-wood stick or gel removal tool.

    Procedure:

    • Put one cotton ball with acetone on top of a nail and take a piece of aluminum foil to wrap the finger.
    • Do the above step for the remaining fingers and thumbs.
    • Wait 20 minutes.
    • Pull the aluminum foil from the little finger and gently scrape away loose gel polish. If there is still gel polish stuck on the nail surface, put the aluminum foil back on.
    • Repeat the above step for other fingers until gel polish is completely off the nails.

Pro: this is a popular method used in a salon since it is easier to have someone do it for you.

    Cons:

    • If you do it yourself, it is similar to the finger clip method. After you wrap fingers one hand, it is very cumbersome to wrap fingers on the second hand. Also, while you are trying to do the second hand, wrapped aluminum foil on the first hand will come loose, therefore reducing contact time between cotton ball and fingernail.
    • Limited use of hands and fingers because aluminum foil can slide off fingers easily.
    • It is cumbersome to put back the aluminum foil properly so cotton on top of the nail because the foil may be squeezed out of shape.

WARNING: acetone will ruin wood furnitures finish! If you remove gel polish yourself which requires using acetone, make sure that you cover your wood table with a large plastic bag or use a table that has acetone proof surface.

And that is how gel polish should be removed.

    Happy gelling.

How to take off nail polish without use of nail remover

A long acetone adventure can be extremely harsh and drying, so treat your clean nails to some TLC: Soak your nails in coconut oil for 5 to 7 minutes, then apply a deeply hydrating cuticle oil on your nail beds, says Choi. Ginger Ale And Baking Soda

Baking soda is effective as an abrasive on its own, but when mixed with ginger ale, it makes a powerful cleaning solution. You can use it to get all stains from your carpet.

To clean the nail polish out of the carpet with ginger ale and baking soda, you wont need more than 20 minutes.

    Things you need:

    • Ginger ale homemade or store-bought
    • Baking soda
    • Sponge
    • Bucket of water

To start, sprinkle baking soda on top of the stain. If the nail polish is already dry, you can wet the area with a bit of warm water or ginger ale, to help baking soda penetrate the fibers. Next, pour a fair amount of ginger ale on top of baking soda and let it sit for ten to 15 minutes.

Use a toothbrush to scrub and clean the carpet. Again, circular motions work best as you wont spread the nail polish as much. Moreover, I recommend using a toothbrush for spot cleaning on the carpet because it will give you more precision than regular scrubbing brushes.

Rinse the area with a sponge, clean water, and let it air dry. If you arent satisfied with the results, complete the procedure one more time.

What is especially good about this method is that it cannot harm the carpet, no matter how many times you use baking soda and ginger ale in combination.

Lastly, dont forget to vacuum the carpet to remove baking undissolved baking soda crunches. You can also use a carpet cleaner over the whole carpet to disinfect the area and refresh your space.

How To Take Off Acrylics Using Hot Water

Following the steps below, you use a mixture of warm water a few drops of dish soap and a couple of tablespoons of oil as the soaking solution. It doesnt have to be fancy expensive cooking or aromatherapy oil, vegetable oil will work just as well. The oil and dish soap will help the warm water to break down the acrylic.

  • Trim back your nails
  • Pre-soak your nails in as warm water as your fingers can tolerate without discomfort for 10 minutes. Pat dry and then file the tops of your nails to remove as much of the shiny topcoat as you can.
  • Then soak your nails again in warm water with the dish soap and oil and wait for 30 minutes. Again using water as warm as you can tolerate without discomfort.
  • Use a cuticle pusher to scrape off the acrylic. If its being stubborn, stop and keep soaking for another 10 minutes and try again. Keep soaking until you are able to remove the acrylic without pain or excessive force.
  • Most importantly be patient! If youve removed acrylics or have had them removed at the salon with acetone before, dont expect them to come off as quickly. It will take a lot longer.
  • Once youve scraped off as much as you can dont scrape too much or too hard, or youll damage your natural nail! use the coarse side of your buffer to remove any acrylic residue
  • Apply a nail and cuticle oil or balm and massage into your nails and cuticles and use the soft side of your buffer to shine them up.
  • Re-apply cuticle oil or balm and massage it in.
