Is There An Alternative To Adhesive Tape Picture Rail Or Picture Wire

Hello everybody, I would like to hang some normal photos and posters. In addition, I would like to hang a self-painted canvas picture, which is currently still standing on an easel, on my wall. Now I really don`t want the wallpaper in my room to be damaged by the installation of the pictures. In addition, I have some rooms with concrete walls that forbid me to hammer nails into my walls. Are there nailless alternatives that also hold and can be removed from the wallpaper without damage? What do you think of these self-adhesive picture hooks?

If The Frame Has A Hanger On The Back Use Adhesive Hooks

If your picture frame has a hook on the back, you can also use adhesive hooks. Adhesive hooks have a weight rating of between one and eight pounds. You can use multiple hooks to hold artwork that weighs more than eight pounds. Like adhesive strips, these can be easily removed from smooth wall surfaces without damage. Be cautious using these on textured surfaces as they may remove the finish.

  • Clean the wall with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
  • You’ll be hanging the artwork on the hook with hardware that’s attached to the back, so you won’t need to remove anything unless it prevents the picture from hanging flat against the wall.
  • Remove the paper liner from the back of the adhesive, and press firmly against the wall for 30 seconds.
  • Let set for one hour before hanging your artwork.

    Consider Using Guides Or Rails

Now, this is an excellent option if youre looking to create an effect that stands out. The reason is that youd mostly find pictures being hung on guides and rails in museums and galleries. You can create a unique aesthetic effect without defacing the walls if you can pull this off right.

All you need to do here is to set up guide rails to the wall or ceiling. You then fix the picture on the wire that sticks out from the guide rail. Its as easy as that. You might need to make some small holes for this. However, nowhere will the gaps be as significant as those made by nails.

Using guide rails allows you to change the pictures as often as possible without worrying about adhesives stuck to the wall and whatnot. Plus, theres something about having a gallery-related way of hanging your pictures.

Put The Art On An Easel

How To Hang Up Frames Without Using Nails

Easels take up a decent chunk of floor space, so this might not be the best option if you’re in a studio. But if you have space to work with, especially in larger common areas where a statement art piece can become a focal point of the room, try putting your art on an easel or pedestal. This kind of display will add another layer of interaction with the piece since it won’t feel as 2-dimensional as it would mounted on a wall.

Fireplace mantels are often cluttered with family photos and knick-knacks but they can also become an amazing showcase for dramatic works of art.

The theory is simplejust place your framed artwork on the mantel, lean it back, and enjoy. That said, if you regularly use your fireplace, you will definitely want to make sure the temperature above the mantel wont damage the artwork.

According to Luis Navarro, the Plant Manager for Park West Florida, monitoring a rooms temperature and humidity are essential when it comes to protecting a work of art. Keep the temperature within normal ranges and try to keep the humidity around 55 percent.

Hanging A Frame/canvas Painting Using Command Strips

    Contents

Here are a few things youll require to hang a frame/canvas:

    • At least four command strips
    • Tape measure/piece of chalk/pencil
    • Level

Before you proceed, ensure that your canvas painting isnt in close proximity to your workspace. You dont want your foot to land on your prized possession unintentionally! With that in mind, let us begin:

    • Step 1: Separate the command strips by pulling them apart. Each strips bottom sides should be connected one on top of the other. A snap sound will be heard as you attach the sides, and this determines that the strips are functioning.
    • Step 2: Separate the strips and adhere them to the back corners of your canvas painting. The size of your canvas painting determines the number of strips required. After attaching them to the back of your canvas painting, peel away the protective covering from each command strip.
    • Step 3: Place your canvas painting in the chosen location and secure it with the level. Hold the canvas painting so that it doesnt press against the wall.

Try not to make additional adjustments to the canvas painting once the bubble is in the center of the level. Proceed by placing the canvas artwork against the wall and firmly pressing it until it adheres. If possible, use a little force to bang on the corners for a more secure grip.

How Much Can You Hang Without A Stud

Studs are strong wood pieces that make up the frame of a wall. Many modern homes have vertical studs spaced around 16 inches apart, and some studs also run horizontally.

When hanging something on the wall, studs provide a strong base for nails or screws. Without studs, you can only hang 10 pounds.

Even though drywall is strong and versatile, it needs a stud to support it. Thats why you shouldnt use nails or screws at this time. If your frame weighs more than 10 pounds, choose something that wont damage your frame if it falls unexpectedly.

    Make Use Of Your Mantle

Hanging Picture Frames On Wall Without Nails

Not all homes have a mantle. However, for those who live in a rental apartment or a house with a fireplace, the mantle is an ideal space for you to capitalise on. Forget about your granny trinkets thrown away haphazardly on the fireplace to take up space. Use your mantle instead to stylishly display arresting framed pictures, canvases, or photographs that will elevate the mood in your space. Be bold and creative.

    Hang Heavy Frames With Adhesives

Sure, hanging lightweight prints and maps is easy to do without damaging the walls of your apartment. But, when you have a collection of antique mirrors and large, brass frames, you might need an alternative that is more heavy-duty than duct tape. Luckily for renters, there are several variations of durable adhesive hooks, strips, and hangers to accommodate nearly any frame or mirror. Velcro strips are a popular choice for those gallery wall enthusiasts and those who frequently update their home decor with new frames or photos. Some companies make wall adhesives featuring strong, metal hooks that can support up to 50 pounds, perfect for oil paintings encased in ornate frames and heavy mirrors.

    Step : Arranging The Collection

Now that you have the decorative items, its time to arrange your artwork.

The easiest way I have found is to lay your artwork on the floor and rearrange there.

Move pieces around, add, or take away until you are happy with a layout.

But then, WALK AWAY, maybe take a picture first just in case something gets moved. The reason I tell you to walk away is that when you come back, you have a fresh look and you will see if you truly like the layout.

Come back and see if youre happy rearrange or remove items if necessary.

When youre satisfied with the look, its time to create a template of each item. This makes hanging items on the wall much easier.

TIP: Take a picture of the final layout before moving forward.

    For Heavy Art Use Press

Dealing with a heavy piece of artwork? Youre in luck. Manufacturers include Monkey Hook that can hold up to 35 pounds, Gorilla Hook for artwork weighing up to 50 pounds, Super Hook for up to 80 pounds, and Hercules Hook for massive pieces weighing up to 150 pounds. These will make a small hole in the drywall but do not require tools to install.

  • Push the long, tapered end of the hook through the wall so just the small hook is sticking out. Make sure the hook is upright.
  • For heavier pictures, you’ll need to use more than one hook. Use a level to make sure the hooks are at the same height. Measure the artwork width and divide it into thirds or quarters to balance the weight.
  • Hang the artwork. A wire strung along the back of the frame may be easier to line up on the hooks.
