Keeping a fresh manicure can be a time-consuming luxury that can get pretty pricey. Between the time it takes to head to the salon and sit through the appointment, you can lose at least an hour of your day depending on what you get done.

While it’s great to treat yourself every once in a while, sometimes you just need a quick way to get a pretty set of nails. Perhaps you want to try a new style but don’t want to commit to rocking it for several weeks. There’s one simple solution to both of these issues: press-on nails.

Press-on nails are an easy, time-saving way to have fun with your manicure and try out different shapes, colors and styles in the comfort of your own home. If you’re a beginner and don’t know where to start, we asked the experts for their tips on how to properly apply salon-quality press-on nails.

How Did Dashing Diva Get So Fly

Dashing Diva is manufactured in Korea, but based in New York. If youve ever had a conversation with any beauty expert, youll know that South Korea is known for their beauty technology and blow everyone else out of the water, separating them from the rest. Dashing Diva is super quality controlledfrom fit, to high quality nail art details, to the look and feel of their nail polish strips.

I also think theyre awe-inspiring because theyve made sure their products are completely customizable! I brought my DD nails with me on my last trip and added nail art stickers to my press on nails. They turned out so much more personalized than when I go to nail salons.

Why I Use Them:

No dry time and they last 2 weeks as advertised! These are my go-to for everyday wear. They dont need an LED or UV lamp or heat that can ruin your hands or nails and last a really long time. A couple times Ive had a mishap, like I didnt prep my nails enough before applying or jumped in the pool and loosened one or two, but enough spares are in the package for a redo. Plus they come off with zero damagelike a nail sticker! To me, this is the biggest reason why I prefer this to gel nails. If I have one chipped gel nail, I feel like the whole set has to come off because I cant redo that one chipped nail without a lot of work or a trip to the salon.

Day 2 These nails have not been retouched to show actual results

I also love that you can use nail polish with these . You can treat this like the color layer for your nails. You can do anything you want to them. This means you can add a base coat, top coat, nail stickers, bling, etc. Or, if you want to use nail polish, but want a barrier base coat, they make clear strips too!

DASHING DIVA NAIL GUARD PROTECTIVE STRIPS REVIEW

Dashing Diva recommends adding a little cuticle oil and then peeling off, but Ive removed them without anything on and my nails were longer and prettier than when they started. When it hasnt been fine to just peel it off was when I had a salon gel manicure that was causing weak and peeling nails. These nail strips do have adhesive, so, I would recommend putting a barrier on first if your nails are in bad shape.

Why You Should Use Dashing Diva Nail Guards

Dashing Diva Nail Guards are considered the best nail wraps, and there are several reasons behind it. Here is the reason why you should choose them-

  • It is quite inexpensive they typically cost about $12 for a set that includes a couple of manicures.
  • The sets can be mixed and matched.
  • The process of applying these is pretty quick like, it takes only 10 minutes to apply.
  • There is a wide variety of colors and styles available in Dashing Diva Nail Strips.
  • If you do not need them, they can be removed easily.
  • It is much easier to re-do one nail if the gel strip starts peeling off than to spend a lot of time getting to a nail salon.

Benefits Of Wearing Press

For celebrity manicurist Jolene Brodeur, she loves that press-on nails add length in minutes while adding some much-needed protection.

“If you’ve got very thin nails or sometimes people’s nail beds are sore, it just shields from that,” she told Shop TODAY.

Manicurist Rachel Messick called press-ons “an easy way to bring the look of a high-end salon manicure with minimal effort and time commitment.” She also said they are “perfect for special occasions and general mood boosting.”

Has Anyone Used Dashing Diva Nail Guards

I havent personally used it, but I follow a dip FB group. And someone posted about their experience. It lasted 15 days on their nails. The person elected to remove them at that point with the help of cuticle oil. As far as I can remember, none popped off prior the removal.

I use these. They are pretty good at preventing damage to the nail and will last 1-2 weeks. You do need to prep the nail so they stay sticky and I wouldnt just pull it off. I actually just wait for most of my nails to pop off, then soak the last few in acetone, but it is way faster than doing all of them.

When I Dont Use Them:

These arent a 1-second manicure. Though I would consider doing them in an Uber because they dont smell like anything and there isnt a dry time, they still take about 15-20 minutes to do well and arent quite as fool-proof as the Magic Press . I like to apply these when Im relaxing before bed because they look amazing after Ive slept in them. I also prefer to use their other products if my nails are peeling so I dont risk additional damage.

Dashing Diva Gel Nail Strip Review + Application

September 4, 2019 by

I have gnarly nails. They are always peeling and chipping and I keep them really short so I can play piano without the click clacking of long nails.

For the past few years, I have done gel or powder dip manicures almost all of the time. I love how they look and they last forever. However, they are not without major drawbacks. I was dropping $40-50 every time I got them done, taking an hour at a nail salon, and removing them always absolutely shredded my nails. They would be paper thin and fragile afterwards, which led me to getting them done again, and the cycle would continue.

So I decided to let my nails heal. I tried a few different polishes that promised long wear, but none of them delivered on their promises. Also, there is nothing like having wet nail polish that makes me need to go pee more. Weve all done that dance, trying to get our pants buttoned with wet nail polish. It never works.

And then these Dashing Diva Gel Nail Strips entered my life. I was very skeptical. The gal at the beauty supply store assured me that hers last 2 weeks, but I was unconvinced.

But after trying them out for myself, Im a true convert! They really do last at least 2 weeks, they are super easy to put on, easy and harmless to take off, and so FUN! I get compliments on my nails every time Im out.

In the gel nails vs strip nails competition, these are no contest. Dashing Diva Gel Nail Strips win in cost, time, nail integrity, design, and ease.

Tips For Wearing Press

Dashing Diva Nail Guard 54 Strips (3 Sheets) Protective ...

Messick’s tip for anyone looking to try press-on nails is simple: “Go with a length that you’re comfortable with,” she advised.

Brodeur’s main tip is to use nail shields or guards for an added layer of protection if you have weak or thin nails. Messick also mentioned using nail guards in case you need to take off the nails quickly for any reason because they’ll help expedite the process.

If you’ve never worn press-on nails, Messick says to start with sticky tabs since they’re easy to remove. “Try them on get a feel for it. Make sure that you’re comfortable with the length and that you can function,” she told us.

Messick’s final tip: Don’t wear press-ons for too long! “I personally don’t recommend wearing press-on nails for more than five to six days. While you can prep the nail and glue it and have it last for a really long time, because it’s just something glued to your nail, there’s a little more of an opportunity for bacteria and debris to get between your nail and the press-on and that can create some bacterial infections and some not-so-cute green spots on the nail,” she said.

Messick recommends these custom press-on nails from Color Camp. “Those are going to be a little bit more elite, a little bit more expensive than the other ones I’ve mentioned but they’re all handcrafted,” she said.

This top-rated option from Amazon has a 4.6-star average and over 4,200 verified five-star ratings. It even comes in scented options including pumpkin spice latte!

How To Apply Press

Both Messick and Brodeur recommend starting with clean nails. “When I say ‘clean’ I mean no nail polish on, no oils or lotions. I would even, if you’re a beginner, make sure you swipe the nail with a little bit of alcohol to temporarily dehydrate it to make sure it’s very clean no moisture,” Brodeur said.

Once your nails are clean, it’s time to begin the pre-application process. Messick said to start by measuring and laying out your press-on nails in order from thumb to pinkie. “If youre in between sizes, opt for the slightly larger tip and gently file the sides to get the perfect fit. If you use a tip thats too small, itll pop off,” she explained.

Messick then recommends pushing the cuticles back, gently buffing and shaping the nails and using nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol to remove any dust, debris or oil from the nail. Once you’ve completed those steps, apply your nail guards or nail glue, then press and hold the press-on nail down for five to 10 seconds.

Dashing Diva Nailguard Protective Base

Dashing Divas NailGuard is a peel-away protective base for gel-polish and acrylics. NailGuard eliminates soak-off time, and a micro-thin base layer helps maintain client nail health. The product requires no dry time and can be worn up to 14 days.

1. Start with clean, dry hands and nails. Push back cuticles with a manicure stick. Wipe nails with alcohol to remove any remaining oil. Select the NailGuard strip that best fits each nail. The strip should cover the entire nail from side to side without touching the skin. Detach the individual NailGuard strip by tearing along the perforated line and remove the white backing paper. Hold the strip at its center and place the tacky side down onto the nail starting at the base. Press down side to side to release NailGuard onto the nail. Remove the top film and discard. Firmly smooth strip over entire nail. Start at the base and smooth the center, move up from side to side. Fold any excess strip over the nail edge and gently file away. Make sure the free edge has a smooth finish.

2. Nails are now ready for gel-polish or acrylic application over NailGuard.

3. To remove, dip your manicure stick in polish remover. Place the beveled edge of the manicure stick at the side corner of the cuticle.

4. Gently push-in and slowly lift up to peel away the gel color.

Why I Need Both Gloss And Magic Press Nails As Part Of My Nail Arsenal

GLOSS Gel Nail Strips are great! They protect my nails and look like-a-million-bucks. I dont need to use a base coat or a top coat. All I need is a little time and a nail file. And my nails can be as long or as short as I want them. But what they dont do is add length like artificial nails do.

I alternate between GLOSS and Magic Press depending on the length of my nails, the shape I want, and what Im doing that week. Press-on nails just dont make sense if your nails are already long! Also, I dont think Id ever want to change the shape of my natural nails too drastically. So, if I want a trendy shape, Im going to file those false nails, not my real ones.
