& : Soak It Off & Wrap It Up
There are two ways you can do this next part.
The first option is to pour acetone into a small dish and soak your fingers in the acetone for 10-15 minutes. To make the process even faster, we recommend placing your small dish of acetone into a bigger bowl with warm water. Warming up the acetone will allow it to penetrate the product faster and make your removal process much easier.
The second option is to soak your cotton balls in the acetone instead. One by one, place an acetone-soaked cotton ball on top of your nail. Grab a small piece of foil and wrap it around your fingertip to secure the cotton ball to your nail. Gently press the foil, so it forms to your fingertip. Allow your nails to soak for 10-15 minutes.
Pro Tip: Cut your foil during the prep phase, and use plain, non-moisturizing cotton balls
Are Gel Manicures Safe
UV lights automatically come with the assumption of scary side effects , so some brands have switched over to LED curing, thanks to their lower levels of UV rays. Totty says, “Over the last couple of years, gel manicures have become the most popular service in any salon. There has been ample research regarding damage to skin and nails the traditional UV lamps used for curing these products have different bulbs than traditional tanning beds, and most nail brands are switching to LED lamps simply because they cure the product in 30 seconds compared to two to three minutes using a UV lamp.”
On the other hand, if you love your UV lamp for drying, Gibson Tuttle recommends applying sunscreen beforehandjust in case.
As with most nail polishes, some gels are made with better ingredients than others. While its hard for gel polishes to be completely clean, the biggest ingredients you want to keep an eye out for are dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, and toluene. These ingredients are not only toxic, but some are even carcinogenic. So, if youre mindful about shopping clean, this is something you certainly want to be aware of.
Why Does Dnd Come With Two Polishes Whats The Difference
DND comes with two polishes for marketing campaign purposes many brands use this marketing of two different polishes to widen their audience. However, the difference between the two polishes is, one is a gel nail polish, and the other is regular nail polish.
This difference is that most people like to apply it on both toenails and hands. They apply the long-lasting gel polish on their hands and use the regular polish for their toenails. My all-time favorite DND duo is gel color DC055, check this duo here.

How To Remove Gel Nail Polish Easily Without Acetone
I love a long wearing manicure, but I dont love the whole soak off process. I feel like gel nails take even longer than dip to soak off my nails, and I would really like to avoid soaking my nails in acetone for 20 minutes. I tried the little clips you clip onto your fingers, and I also tried the whole wrapping them in foil thing and I just dont love those processes. It takes forever, and you cant use your hands.
I saw this Facebook ad on my timeline over and over again with this magic remover basically bubbling up the gel polish and scraping off in no time flat. I ordered it straight off that ad and awaited the magic.
Come to find out, this stuff is on and priced significantly less. Why did I spend over $20 on two bottles when you can get 3 for $11? I dont know. Anyway
When it arrived I tried the Magic Remover on a dip manicure I had on . It didnt really do much. It helped getting the soak off process started but I gave up after 45 minutes of it sitting on my nails and switched to acetone to soak off. So, word of wise this stuff doesnt work well with dip powder.
I then tried it on a gel manicure and I really like it! But, there are a few things you have to be aware of. It does not magically bubble up and fall off your nails, nor does it only take 2 minutes. The ads are really confusing because that does not happen at all. Im pretty sure that ad used regular nail polish and sped the video footage up by 100x. Haha.
Youre Not Using Cuticle Oil
According to Hadley, you can assess nail damage based on their flexibility: Normal nails are somewhat flexible, but the harder and sturdier the nail, the more likely it is to break. Since cold weather tends to make skin drier overall, proper cuticle hydration can make a big difference. Additionally, acetone can be extremely drying to the nail bed, causing nails to break or become brittle over time.
To combat nail dryness, experts suggest keeping cuticle oil close at hand . I swear by cuticle oil and personally love NCLA’s, Pulaski tells SELF. I used to think that cuticle oil wasn’t essential, but I started using it about two years ago and I always carry it with me now, especially in the colder months! Adding a few drops of oil to your nails and cuticles in between salon visits will keep them hydrated.
Keeping my nails looking good, with or without polish, is definitely a priority. So while I probably wont give up on gel nail polish altogether, Ill definitely think twice before trying to stretch my manicure for longer than two weeks at a time.

Soak Cottonballs In Nail Polish Remover
While acetone-free nail polish removers may work fine for regular polish, you should probably stick to the strong stuff when removing gel manicures. âI highly recommend an acetone-based remover because it will break down the product quicker,â says Nunez.
Fill a small dish with nail polish remover and soak 10 cotton balls . Cotton balls are also smaller and better fit your nail, which means less harsh acetone on your cuticles.
Diy Gel Nails Steps To Apply And Remove Gel Nail Polish
Traditional nail polishes are prone to chipping within a few days, quite often due to more oil production on the nail bed which prevents the polish from adhering for a prolong duration. Gel polish is the latest trend for those struggling with long-wearing nail polish. Unlike regular nail polish, gel polish is a thinner formula and more flexible than standard acrylic enhancements so it will not chip easily from your nails.Applying the color requires a specification technique using UV or LED lamp to help it remain on the nail bed. The method for applying gel polish can be done at home easily for a long lasting manicure. With a thin formula, the gel polish will not come off easily with a single swipe of nail polish remover. Correct removal of the gel polish will assure the health of your nails remain intact.

I went with Orly’s GelFX Kiss the Bride shade, a soft baby pink. Using the same steps Boyce suggested above, I started off painting one thin layer on my thumb, curing it for 30 seconds this time, then moving onto my other fingers. Once I was finished, I layered on a second coat and repeated these same steps for curing.

First, use SPF on your hands if you purchase a UV lamp.Years ago when I bought a lamp, LED lamps were just coming out and I decided to play it safe with the traditional UV lamp. My light has long been discontinued!
I recommend buying an LED lamp for 2 reasons: 1. LED is safer on your skin 2. LED lamps will dry the polish in nearly 1/4 the time! This will save you a significant amount of time. Trust me! Also, snag THIS KIT for the polishes + acetone + alcohol. Youll need it all!

My Favorite Gel Nail Polish Colors
When it comes to polish, I typically prefer OPI Gelcolor. Its what Im used to from my salon. I love the range of colors, and the soak off process is easy without harming my nails. I also love that their gel polish offerings mirror their regular polish. So if youve always loved cult-favorite colors like Bubble Bath, youll have the option to wear it in gel polish, too.
There are countless kinds of gel nail products available, and theyre not all the same quality. Some are harsher, require filing off, etc. So be certain to read packaging and do your research on their recommended removal techniques.
As far as colors, my favorite deep burgundy red polish that I wear on my toes essentially year-round is OPI GelColor in Got The Blues For Red, which I order via Walmart. My favorite color to wear on my hands in the summertime is Lisbon Wants Moor, which is a beautiful opaque light blush, and in the winter I actually use Got The Blues For Red on both my hands and feet most often. When shopping for gel polish, Ive found great OPI GelColor options on Overstock.com as well as Walmart.

How Much Does It Cost
The cost of a gel manicure varies widely between cities, states, and nail techs. In major cities like LA and New York City, a gel manicure can cost anywhere from $30 to $50+. In general, expect gel polish to cost about $10 to $15 more than your regular manicure. Keep in mind that you’ll also have to pay for gel removal if you decide you don’t want to take it off at home.
Use Regular Nail Polish
Yes, good old nail polish thats been with us since we can remember! Most salons dont even offer it any more as customers interest for it has hugely declined.
However, when the growth gap shows it comes to your rescue. Simply paint the gap and it is gone. Make sure you choose a matching colour with your design. For example:
- Single-colour designs go really well with sparkles either silver or gold.
- Multi-colour designs should be combined with whichever colour dominates the pattern.
- Filling in a gap with a transparent base goes with anything.
In the end, dont forget that you should always feel at your best! Pick a colour that makes you feel confident and attractive.
