The Egyptians also used nail color to signify social order, with shades of red at the top. Queen Nefertiti, wife of the king Akhenaton, colored her fingers and toes nails ruby red and Cleopatra favored a deep rust red. Women of lower rank who colored their nails were permitted only pale hues, and no woman dared to flaunt the color worn by the queen or king, as Egyptian men, too, sported painted nails.

Youll have to play the waiting game to achieve longer stronger natural nails At first the change was amazing. Within two weeks my nails looked completely different and I thought they would be long in no time. Unfortunately, that didnt happen.
Length Does Not Equal Strength. While the Nail Envy allowed the edges to grow out, they were still weak and soft. I frequently broke them off or snagged them and had to file the edges. I was also still growing out some areas that had broke off into the nail bed. As much as I hated to get rid of progress on length, I had to clip them several times to ensure that it was healthy, even growth coming from the nail bed. Once the strength returned, I was ready to stop clipping and start growing.

Nail Polish Longevity Test
No matter how great your nail polish looks when first applied, if it doesnât last a reasonable amount of time, it hardly seems worth the cost and effort.
To compare the longevity of Essie and OPI nail polishes, we applied 2 coats of Essie nail polish to the left hand of our model and 2 coats of OPI to the right. Since we didnât want our results to be impacted by external factors, we decided to forgo base coats and top coats.
Our model wore the polishes for 5 days while being sure to consistently handle common objects with both hands throughout the day to evenly test the durability of both brands. We took photos of her hands at the end of each day and compared the results.
Day 1: Both the Essie and OPI manicures were 100% intact with no chips
Day 2: The Essie manicure had a slight dent in the polish on one finger. OPI had chipping starting on the tip of one finger and the base of another.
Day 3: Essie had an additional small chip on one finger. OPI now had chips on 3 fingers.
Day 4: Essie and OPI both had chips on all 5 fingers.
Day 5: Essie and OPI both had chips on all 5 fingers.
While both Essie and OPI ended up with chips on all 5 fingers by day 4, the Essie chips were not quite as large as the OPI ones. Essie also didnât feel like it chipped quite as easily as OPI did.

Before you get started, you’ll need the following products:
- OPI GelColor Base Coat
- N.A.S. 99 Nail Cleansing Solution
- Nail and Cuticle Oil
Start with properly prepped nails, and shake GelColor Base Coat vigorously for 1 minute to ensure the product is fully dispersed.
Apply 1 thin coat evenly without flooding the cuticle area, be sure to cap the free edge.
Cure for 30 seconds in the Dual Cure LED Light.
Shake GelColor shade of choice vigorously for 1 minute. Shown here is OPI GelColor Cajun Shrimp.
Apply 2 thin coats leaving a tiny margin around the cuticle area. Cap the free edge to prevent shrinkage. Cure each coat 30 seconds in the Dual Cure LED Light.
Shake GelColor Top Coat vigorously for 1 minute.

How We Chose The Type And Color
Once we chose the brands, we had to choose the specific type of nail coloring to compare. We elected to review nail polishes/lacquers since they are the most popular.
Each brand of nail polish comes in a wide variety of colors which can make comparison difficult. To mitigate this, we decided to go with black as it is a more universal color.
We used âLicoriceâ by Essie and âBlack Onyxâ by OPI.

How Long Does Opi Nail Polish Take To Dry
Now, we dont all want to wait that long before we can use our hands again, do we? OPI developed its formula for all those impatient divas who need the use of their hands. As many of its supporters claim, unlike other brands, it only takes up to 5 minutes.
Most claims state that it should be completely dry within 15 minutes, and this is without additional assistance from dryers. However, if you want to play it on the safe side, keep sticking to the 1 hour rule.
Otherwise, you can test by the old odor test. If an odor is still present after applying a coat, it means it is still drying. When the smell is gone, it is as good as dry can get.
Waiting for nail polish to dry in between coats only takes about 2 minutes. After that, the second coat should adhere perfectly without disturbing the prime coat.
How Do You Use Opi Gel Polish At Home
Start by thoroughly cleaning your nails. If you wish, you can apply an OPI bonding agent at this point so that the gel will adhere more strongly. Next, apply OPI GelColor base coat to your nails. Use the OPI LED light to cure the base coat. Next, apply the OPI Gel Nail Polish color of your choice.
