Size Your Nails For The Perfect Fit

PRESS ON NAILS: HOW TO MAKE THEM LAST (Easy tips & tricks)

If you find that you cant find the perfect size for your nail, go for one slightly larger and file it down to your nail size .

Pro-Tip: Size one hand and reference the number under the nail to find duplicates in the pack for your other hand!

6. Buff/file the inside of the press on nail .

I consider this somewhat of an advanced tip. However, it helps depending on the style of the nail. Using a buffing block, file, or filing machine, filing the inside of the nail helps get rid of the shine on the false nail allowing it to adhere to your natural nail better.

Since Im applying jelly style nails, Im skipping this step because they are translucent, and I dont want that showing through the nail.

Soak In Warm Soapy Water

Glues dont like water. Therefore, soaking your nails in warm soapy water can help to remove the press on nails without harming your natural nails. Place some detergent in warm water and shake to form a lather. Allow it to soak for up to 20 minutes or as long as required.

Press-on nails are reusable, which makes them a super saver. If you plan to reuse your press-on nails, make sure you separate them from the unused ones in the kit. You can now join the artistic nail trend on Instagram without having to bore a hole in your pocket.

To Loosen The Nail Further And Ensure Easy Removal Apply A Cuticle Oil Underneath The Nail

If you have remaining glue or residue on your natural nails, it tends to wash away over the course of a day or two. However, if its really bothering you, you can remove nail glue with a try a glue-off solution like this one.

Avoid using the solution to remove the press-on nail itself, as it could damage the nail or cause the paint to wear off.

Selecting Fake Nails And Nail Glue

  • 1Select a set of full-coverage press-on nails. Quality does make a difference in the overall look and longevity of your nails to a certain extent, but don’t feel the need to splurge. You can pick out an inexpensive set, especially if you’re experimenting with different looks. Choose a set that covers the whole fingernail, not just the tips.XResearch source
  • A cheap set of nails that’s well cared for will last longer than a more expensive set if you don’t maintain it properly.
  • 2Pick fake nails that match the width and curve of your natural nails. The fake nails in press-on sets come in multiple widths from 9 to 18 mm . Measure your natural nails to see if yours are on the narrower or wider sides of the spectrum, or somewhere in the middle. Try to find fake nails that mimic the curve of your fingernails, whether they’re mostly flat or have a pronounced arch.
  • Place a tape measure or ruler across the widest part of your nail to gauge the width.
  • The nail size is often printed on the back of the nail. Once you find the right sizes for each fingernail, write them down or make a note in your phone for future reference!XResearch source
  • Shorter press-ons can be just as stylish as long, pointy talons. They’ll be more durable and practical for everyday wear.
  • You’re less likely to risk having a short fake nail pop off when you do your laundry, for instance. But it’s easy to get a long nail caught on something, especially if you’re not used to having long nails.

    How to Make Press

Since weve been spending so much time at home over the past few months, Ive stayed busy by testing out new skincare treatments, brushing up on my , redecorating my apartment, experimenting with streaming workouts, and I even learned how to apply fake nails like a pro.

Truthfully, prior to quarantine, I hadnt done my own nails in YEARS. Ive been loyal to the same manicurist since 2013 and would go see her once a month, every single month, without fail. I never missed a single appointment!

So when nail salons were forced to close, I had no choice but to figure out another solution.

I tried an at-home dip powder manicure, and although I loved the way it looked, it took WAY too long and really only lasted for a week or two.

Eventually I started doing some research on the best fake nails after hearing from several people who swore by them. I was initially skeptical, because Id never tried any kind of press-on or glue-on option before. I also assumed that I was way too rough on my nails and theyd pop off after a day or two.

But let me be the first to tell you: I WAS WRONG. And I honestly cant believe I had been sleeping on press-on nails for so long.

After my research and a lot of testing, I actually found the best fake nails from Target by a brand called Clutch Nails.

Steps To Make Press On Nails Last Longer

One of the biggest questions I get asked is how to make press on nails last longer. Press on nails are so easy and convenient and I love how you can mix and match them with your different looks. But, OMG I used to struggle with how to get them to stay on longer! What I learned is that its all in the application.

The one thing that used to drive me insane was not being able to keep them on long without one popping off while doing something like digging into my purse. Ill show you below, the steps I still use to keep my press on nails on for a good amount of time. I can usually wear them for about 3 weeks. Trial and error is really how I figured out what worked best for me. Hopefully, if you try the steps below, you too can enjoy wearing your press on nails for waaaay longer!

By the way, Im excited to hear from you guys so if you ever have any questions, dont be shy comment below or send me a message Im here to help!

*If youre using cuticle oils, which I recommend by the way, make sure you apply the oil after you have applied your press on nails, not before.

This post is about how to make press on nails last longer.

  • PUSH BACK CUTICLES
  • FILE
  • DEHYDRATE
  • Wipe each of your natural nails with rubbing alcohol, then let them dry.

  • GLUE
  • APPLY
  • Before The Great Snooze

Applying your fake nails before bed allows for time for the glue to dry. After pressing down on each nail a good bit of time, going to sleep will give the glue time to stick. Otherwise, if you start to lift heavy objects or do anything that causes the fake nail to lift from your nail bed, you risk weakening the glue and thus shortening the longevity of your press-on nails.

Swipe The Nail Surface With Alcohol Or A Nail Dehydrator

This isnt a mandatory step, but its something I do and have noticed it helps my fake nails last longer.

Alcohol or a dehydrator will help remove any leftover oils or residue on your nails, and itll create the optimal clean surface for the press-on. I swear by these cotton pads from Amazon. Theyre the BEST.

    Apply A Hardener On Top

HOW I MAKE MY PRESS ON NAILS LAST 3 WEEKS! || Easy Tips & Tricks

Press-on nails, unfortunately, are not as hard as acrylics. Therefore, they will most likely bend at some point. To stop the bending, add a hardener on top. I personally invested in gel polish and a gel lamp so that my nails can mimic a gel polish to my liking. If youre not willing to take it that far, try Sally Hansens Hard As Acrylics Hardener.

    Step : Shape The Press

My biggest tip for making press-on nails look real and making them last: shape them. Many fake nail sets are very long or very pointy. If you’re not used to nails like this or you want a different style, all you have to do is take a pair of nail clippers and a file, and shape them the way you like. Plastic press-on nails are surprisingly easy to cut.

    Ways To Make Your Press

  • Make sure your nails are totally clean before applying your press-ons so that dirt, oil, or other debris doesnt prevent the glue from fully adhering the press-on to your real nail.
  • Apply your glue with how long you want your press-on nails to last. If youre hoping to switch up your nail look just for the weekend, Frank says to only use a couple of drops of glue if you want your press-ons to last for a week or more, cover your entire nail in glue.
  • Opt for shorter nails. As fun as long coffin, stiletto, and almond-shaped nails are, the longer the length, the more likely theyll be to snag on something and accidentally pop off.
  • Consider using a different glue than the one that comes in your kit. Some of the top-reviewed nail glues include KISS PowerFlex Max Speed Glue and Mia Secret Nail Glue .
  • Skip baths or just remember not to submerge your nails underwater. Since press-ons are designed to come off with just soap and water, letting them sit under soapy suds for long periods can shorten their wear.

Easy Tips To Make Press On & Glue On Nails Last Longer

Press on Nails are simply amazing, they allow you to easily and quickly create intricate and stunning nail designs. All without having to spend hours and a ton of money at a nail salon.

Now the main issue that most people bump into when using Press On Nails is that they have a tendency to come off prematurely. But this is a very easy problem to overcome.

So in this article, I gonna share with you 9 tips to make your press on also know as glue on nails last much longer.

Match Your Nail Size With The Fake Nails

The Best Press On Nails & How To Make Them Last For 2 Weeks

Each press-on nail is numbered by size at the top of the underside of the nail: 0 is the largest 9 is the smallest.

As with most good press-on nails, the set comes with 24 nails total which helps accommodate different nail shapes. There will be extras that you dont use because they dont fit your nail shape.

One question that a lot of first-time fake nail users have is what numbers go with each finger. Theres really no right answer here, because its not one-size-fits all. It totally depends on your nail shape and width.

For ex: my nails and nail beds are TINY, so I typically only use the smaller numbers.

Pro Tip: if youre confused about which direction the nail should be facing, just check to make sure you can see the number when you put it on. If you cant see the number, its on upside down.

Step : Find The Correct Nail Size

The KISS press-on nail sets come with teeny, tiny numbers of the back of each nail to indicate the size. Once you find your perfect fit on one hand, you can locate the matching numbered nails for the other. You want the press-on nail to cover your entire nail-bed without hanging over on either side. I find laying all ten fake nails out in finger order on the table in front of me the easiest way to work.

How To Make Press On Nails Last

Press on nails are having a comeback.

When fake nails can look just as good as getting your nails professionally done at the salon, and at half the price , why wouldn’t you make the switch?

Thats the line of thought we tend to have until weve put on a beautiful set of press ons only to have them pop off one hour later.

So we reapply them with some more glue. And they pop off again.

When you have to keep reapplying your press-ons, the repetitive process can start to get really frustrating and annoying, and not worth the effort. But it doesnt have to be this way.

Nothing lasts forever, and manicures are no exception. As the natural nail grows, the base of the nail bed will start to reveal itself and eventually the nail will dislodge itself from your nail beds surface. But there are steps to take that can help extend the life of your press ons.

Your nails can stay healthy under press on nails. This means that you wouldnt be getting those yellow and frail nails that are quite common with gel and acrylic. When you pop a nail, there is no risk that you will bleed or crack your actual nails. Once press on nails pop off, all you have to do is glue them back on. Also, once your actual nails grow under them, you can be sure that they wont incur any damages.

Lastly, make sure you apply the glue to both the nails and your finger. Once you place the falsie on your fingernail, press it down for 30 seconds to a minute so that it sticks properly. It is always a good idea to start with the pinkie and work your way up to the thumbjust for the sake of convenience.

Do Press On Nails Damage Your Real Nails

No, press on nails dont damage your real nails as long as you follow proper application and removal procedures.

However, improper removal, like leaving your nails in acetone for too long can lead to dryness and brittleness. You can also damage the surface of the nail bed by ripping off your press ons.

To avoid this, soak your nails in warm, soapy water for 10 mins or until the nails lift off easily. Then, use cuticle oil and a good hand moisturizer to rebalance your moisture levels.

You can also use a good quality base-coat before application. This creates a protective layer between your natural nail and the adhesive, which may reduce the chance of damage during removal.
