- After the time has passed, twist and pull the foil wraps and clear any remaining residue with a wooden stick and a new cotton pad saturated with Acetone.

Shellac Manicure Update: The Removal
My Shellac manicure finally reached its breaking point, and since I dont exactly have nail salons within a reasonable distance from my house, I decided to remove it myself.
Many nail polish removers contain acetone, but this is actually the straight-up, full strength stuff.
I just wanted to dunk enough of my fingers to get the fingernails and not much else, so I poured a little acetone in one of these Pyrex dishes.
I stuck my nails into the liquid.
The instructions indicate that you should let them soak in acetone for ten minutes. Alternate methods involved soaking cotton balls in acetone, placing them on the fingernails, then covering the fingertips with aluminum foil to hold the acetone against the nail for ten minutes. I didnt want to fiddle with the foil, and decided to use this frequently-recommended method to see how it worked.
So I waitedtapped my toe on the kitchen floor impatientlyand watched.
About four minutes later, I could see that things were really starting to happen.
This was about eight minutes in. Uhyep. I think its working.
I got impatient and wanted to try the next step, which is to gently push/scrape the polish off the fingernail with an orange stick.
The polish did come off pretty easily, though I had to dip a couple of fingers again in the acetone again to loosen up a couple of stubborn spots. Going the full ten minutes in the first place is probably the best plan.
