Hormones Can Affect Hair Growth And Health

HOW TO GROW YOUR HAIR WITH NATURES BOUNTY HAIR, SKIN AND NAILS/ WOMENS VITAMINS REVIEW

Have you ever noticed that pregnant women often have gorgeous hair that wont stop growing no matter how poorly they treat it? Its because of the surges of estrogen they get during pregnancy, which causes hair growth.

After they have the baby and hormones start to adjust, they usually shed hair like crazy. Women who start or change birth control can also go through the same thing.

Estrogen makes your hair grow fast and furious, and sometimes in places that shouldnt have hair. If youve ever been on birth control pills and had hair grow in weird places, you know what I mean.

People with thyroid disorders can also have hair loss, or their hair gets brittle because of hormone fluctuations.

Can A Supplement Make A Difference

The specific nutrients in hair, skin, and nail supplements include antioxidants like vitamins A, C, and E, or Coenzyme Q10, and also biotin, a B-complex vitamin. Hair supplements often contain manganese and selenium as well as fatty acids like fish oil and flaxseed oil.

Deficiencies of these nutrients, although uncommon, may cause a range of hairand, sometimes, skin and nailchanges. Over time, for instance, insufficient intake of vitamins A and E can cause rough, scaly skin patches. A deficiency of biotin may cause eczema and hair loss.

But for those with no clear deficiencies, experts say theres no good evidence that supplements can make a difference.

Im not aware of any robust data suggesting that any supplements can treat natural, aging-related hair loss or nail damage, or give you healthier skin, says Pieter Cohen, MD, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and an expert on dietary supplements.

Two 1990s studies did find that biotin supplements may help strengthen soft, easily breakable nails. But the studies were small and not rigorously conducted, and havent been replicated, Cohen says.

Its nothing that would ever lead me to recommend it to any of my patients, he adds.

A lot of hair supplements also have biotin, Katta says, but for people with normal levels, weve never actually shown that taking a supplement will increase hair growth.

What Do Hair Vitamins Do

Usually, hair-growth vitamins, gummies, and supplements are filled with a mix of hair-friendly ingredients, like biotin folic acid vitamins D, A, C, and E and omegas, all of which supposedly work together to make your hair look longer, healthier, shinier, and stronger with continued use. That is, supposedly.

Guide To Hair Skin And Nails Vitamins

Everyone likes to preen, beautify, look good. Womens natural assets, such as our hair, skin and nails, are often our best accessories. If youre in doubt, just think of how surprisingly empowering a good hair day can be! Given the great inspiration behind our female features, it is no wonder that most women are eager to find the best care regimens for their hair, skin, and nails. Of course, healthy cleaning habits, plus conditioners, creams, lotions, waxes, solutions, top coats, sprays, and other products have their uses, but may not get to the root of growth issues. What should women seeking out real solutions do for their hair, skin and nails?

For many, the answer lies in basic biology. Hair and nails are protein fibers the body produces, while skin is a living, breathing organ. Therefore, like other parts of the body, they need the right mix of nutrients, and vitamins and minerals, to grow healthily. All three need the same well-rounded diet and care that the rest of your body does. However, for some women, diet alone is not enough. Many women suffer from natural protein, iron, and other vitamin deficiencies. Consequently, their bodies lack the materials necessary to build strong, healthy hair, nails, and skin. Symptoms of this inadequacy manifest as thin, brittle, coarse, easily broken or lost hair and nails, and in dry, uneven, or dull-looking skin. Thankfully, modern science has brought an easy solution: hair skin and nails vitamins.

Let me guessyou, too, never give your nails a break when it comes to getting your nails done, like with your gel manis. The problem? The hard coating on gel polish creates a barrier that prevents your tips from getting the moisture they need, leading to dryness and breakage. Sound familiar? If so, give your tips a break, and instead, try getting a gel mani for special occasions only, like for a wedding or long vacation when you dont want your polish to chip.

Otherwise, incorporate a nail-strengthening formula into your mani mix, like Sally Hansen Nail Nutrition Green Tea + Bamboo Nail Strengthener, and simply swipe on regular polish followed by a strong top coat, like Deborah Lippmann Nail Treatment Addicted to Speed Ultra Quick-Dry Top Coat or Jin Soon Top Gloss and Coat.

Who Should Buy Vitamins For Hair Growth

If your hair is thin, lifeless, or brittle, you might be in need of a vitamin for hair growth. Both men and women alike can suffer from hair loss, hair brittleness, or poor hair strength as a result of dietary deficiencies that lead to degradation in hair quality, volume, and rate of growth.

While you could inspect your dietary micronutrient contents and try to tease out whats missing, sometimes its just easier to take a vitamin for hair growth. A supplement designed specifically to include vitamins like biotin, B complex vitamins, iron, zinc, and copper can help address the most common nutritional deficiencies that could be contributing to your lackluster hair.

If your hair is a big part of your appearance, a vitamin for hair growth is an easy way to make sure you have all of your bases covered when it comes to making sure you have the best hair possible. Older men who are starting to deal with hair loss can also benefit from a vitamin for hair growth.

However, its important to emphasize the fact that a vitamin for hair growth is not a replacement for a hair loss treatment. A supplement that provides vitamins for hair growth can provide your body with the building blocks it needs to produce strong and high quality hair, but it wont address the underlying hormonal factors that cause hair loss in the first place.

Vitamin D The Beauty Vitamin

Vitamin D is one of the many hair, skin, and nails vitamins because it is necessary for cell growth and repair.

The Journal of Advanced Research reported that vitamin D is an essential vitamin for hair and skin. Vitamin D deficiency have been linked with psoriasis, skin cancer, acne, and hair loss. A deficiency of vitamin D is common in countries where there is little sunlight. Researchers concluded that vitamin D supplementation can help to reverse some of the symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency.

You can help get enough vitamin D from your diet by consuming oily fish. For example, an 85-gram serving of salmon can provide you with around 450 IU of vitamin D. This is more than 100% of your daily vitamin D requirements.

Other dietary sources of vitamin D that can help give you enough vitamins for your hair and nail health are milk, eggs, fortified yogurt, and tuna.

You can also supplement your diet with D vitamin that is good for hair and nails. This vitamin D3 supplement is a years supply and will help to boost your immunity as well.

Risks And Potential Complications

The biggest risk of essential oils is skin irritation or allergic reactions. This is especially common when an essential oil is applied directly to the skin, so its vital to always use a carrier oil to dilute it.

Allergic reactions are also more common in those with sensitive skin or those who have allergies to the essential oil.

Symptoms of skin irritation include:

  • burning, discomfort, or painful tingling
  • redness in the affected area

Signs of an allergic reaction include:

  • severe dermatitis
  • difficulty breathing
  • swelling of the tongue or narrowing of the throat

Only older teenagers and adults should use essential oils topically for hair health. If you think essential oils could benefit your child, ask their pediatrician first to make sure its safe.

To evaluate for irritation, remember to test a small amount of the mixture on a small patch of skin before full use.

How Much Biotin Can You Take For Hair Loss

Biotin is present in many foods, including eggs, fish, meat, seeds, nuts, sweet potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower.

For supplementation, Cleveland Clinic dermatologists favor amega-B vitamin combination that includes:

  • 3 milligrams of biotin.
  • 200 milligrams of vitamin C.
  • < 1 milligram of folic acid.

Occasionally, the mega B-vitamin combination gives somepatients minor gastric trouble, but switching them to biotin alone relievesit, Dr. Bergfeld notes.

And if you cant find the mega B-vitamin combination, youcan buy biotin, zinc and vitamin C separately, she says.

Vitamins And Minerals To Strengthen Your Hair Skin And Nails

According to the Dietary Reference Intakes, 92 percent of the American population suffers from at least one vitamin or mineral deficiency. Have you experienced signs of vitamin deficiencies? Signs of various vitamin deficiencies may include brittle hair and nails, mouth ulcers, bleeding gums, poor night vision, dandruff, hair loss, red or white bumps on skin and restless leg syndrome. What people may not realize is that most vitamins and supplements help stimulate hair and nail growth if it contains biotin, fish oil or Vitamins A, C and E. You can typically find specialized vitamins in most stores, or a hair, skin and nail vitamin that has high concentrations of the vitamins and minerals below.

Here are the vitamins and minerals to look out for:

· Biotin. Biotin strengthens hair and increases its density. Other ways to fit biotin into your diet include eating eggs and bananas or drinking milk.

· Fish Oil. Fish oil makes hair and nails shiny, and works well as an antiaging supplement. If your skin is damaged from too much sun exposure, the omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil may help.

· Vitamin A. Vitamin A reduces acne flares and is an antiaging agent. Having a vitamin A deficiency may increase the risk of developing acne, as it becomes more difficult for dead skin to be removed from hair follicles, which may lead to a blockage.

· Vitamin B. This vitamin is known to lower the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer and precancerous growths.

What Are Hair Skin And Nail Vitamins

Vitamin deficiencies are believed to be most apparent from the condition of one’s hair, skin and nails. Brittle, dry and dull skin, nails and hair can often indicate deficiencies of B vitamins, as well as vitamins A and D. Vitamin A is believed essential for normal hair and nail growth, and a deficiency in this vitamin may lead to more brittle nails and contribute to hangnails. Vitamin D can help to support the health of hair follicles, for strong hair growth, and can also help with the absorption of calcium for stronger hair, skin and nails. Biotin, a B vitamin complex, may help to support hair growth and prevent hair loss.

How To Choose Hair Nail And Skin Supplements

When shopping for a hair, nail, and skin supplement, one of the most important considerations is the ingredient list.

Ideally, look for products that are free of artificial ingredients and fillers. Also be sure to pick a product with research-backed ingredients, such as vitamins A and D, MSM, collagen, and omega-3 fatty acids.

If youre interested in a supplement that contains a proprietary blend, keep in mind that the exact amounts of the ingredients used in the blends are not disclosed. Therefore, youll want to avoid any products that contain ingredients you may be sensitive to.

On a similar note, its important to buy products from a trusted source. For an extra level of reassurance, look for vitamins that are tested by a third-party organization such as USP, NSF, Banned Substances Control Group , or ConsumerLab.

A third-party seal of approval guarantees that the product contains the types and amounts of ingredients that are listed on the bottle.

Additionally, because some ingredients may interact with medications or be unsafe if youre pregnant or breastfeeding, its best to talk with a healthcare professional before trying any new supplements.

Finally, keep in mind that while studies do support the effectiveness of some ingredients, research on the benefits of these vitamins is still quite limited.

Therefore, theres no guarantee that these products will result in notable differences in your hair, skin, or nails.
