What Drywall Anchor Should You Use

When choosing a drywall anchor to use, first figure out the weight of the object you would like to hang. Next, choose a drywall anchor with a weight rating that is higher than the weight of the object that will be hanged. Choosing a higher weight rating will ensure that the anchor will not fail in case you accidentally added weight to the hanging object or if you accidentally grabbed onto it and pull it down.

So for example, if you are planning to hang an 80 lbs. mirror, you can use a snaptoggle anchor with a weight rating of 90 lbs. or more.

You can also use more than one drywall anchor to carry heavier weights. So using two self-drilling drywall anchors with a weight rating of 30 lbs. each can carry a maximum weight of 60 lbs. . Just be sure that the weight of the object is equally distributed to the two drywall anchors.

Our GHI pro tip: Take the height of the frame, divide it by two, subtract the distance from the top of the frame to the hardware, then add 60.

Consider The Wall Surface

HOW TO HANG PICTURES WITHOUT NAILS
  • Drywall: If the wall you’re working with is made from drywall, you’re in luck this is the easiest material to work with, since it’s an easy material to penetrate. Just be sure to locate a wall stud, since hanging directly on drywall won’t provide a secure anchor. If a solid stud isn’t available, it’s important to use a drywall anchor to hang pictures.
  • Plaster: These walls are a little trickier, as they have a tendency to crumble. Approach the process same way you would when working with drywall: Look for a wall stud for the most secure anchor. Just note that when hanging pictures on a plaster wall, it’s always a good idea to pre-drill your hole. To prevent crumbling, place a piece of painter’s tape on the wall before drilling.
  • Brick: If your walls are brick, you’ll need to use a wall anchor. And use a masonry bit on your drill to drill into mortar, not the actual brick.

How To Hang A Canvas Painting Without Nails

Heres what youll need for a seamless process to hang a canvas painting without nails:

  • Level
  • Four or more command strips
  • Painters tape/piece of chalk/pencil

Before you get started, ensure your canvas painting is nowhere near your working area. You wouldnt want your foot landing on your fancy piece accidentally! With that said, lets get started:

Step 1: Take the command strips and separate each one by pulling them off. Connect the bottom sides of each strip, one on top of the other. As you connect the sides, youll hear a snap sound. This is one way to verify the strips functionality.

Step 2: Separate the strips and paste them on the corners at the back of your canvas painting. How many strips youll need depends on the size of your canvas painting. Once youve placed them on the back of your canvas painting, unpeel the covering from each command strip.

Step 3. Position your canvas painting on the desired spot and place the level on top of it. Hold the canvas painting in a way that you dont press the canvas painting to the wall. Once the bubble is at the center of the level, aligned at the top of the canvas, be careful not to adjust the canvas painting any further.

Push the canvas painting on the wall and press it hard until it sticks. If possible, knock on the corners with a little force for a more solid grip.

To hang my photos, I no longer use nails or other objects that can penetrate the wall. In the past week, I have painted my walls, making it inappropriate to insert nails into them. I, therefore, chose something that leaves no marks on the wall or requires drilling.

Heres my tip make sure you follow the instructions closely. After removing the backing from the first strip, place it on canvas. Following that, apply a strip to the top and hold it firmly for a few seconds.

Next, rub the corner and edge of the strip to ensure they have firmly adhered. It takes a little while for that to soak in. Now, A dry dusting cloth can be used instead of alcohol to clean your wall.

Now, it took about 30 seconds or so to hold against the wall after I removed the top strips backing. To ensure adherence to the wall, I make sure it adheres to the edges and corners. I prefer to have the job done right even if it takes longer.

How to Hang Pictures Without Nails

If you haven’t heard of frame fixings, you may have just found the best way for you to hang a heavy picture. Non-mark hooks are usually made from plastic and have two tiny teeth at the top of them. These allow you to place them on a plasterboard wall where they will stay, even if you put on a heavy frame. All you need to do is tap it with a small hammer and damage to the wall is minimal. Certainly much less than drilling and hammering nails.

These frame holders can support a weight of up to 4 kilograms. But there is a trick for heavier pictures. If you link two or more together, you can support even more weight.

Attach the other side of the velcro strip to the strip that you have put onto the back of the frame. You can also do this in combination with step 3 if you find it easier. This frame had an edge on it, so I wanted to make sure it could fit the strip once applied.

Do this for each velcro strip you installed in step 3.

    Hang Photos With Self

Self-adhesive hooks are perhaps best known for hanging pictures without using nails. This is because they are very effective and reduce damage to the wall. It’s a very comfortable way to put a frame of up to 4 kilos, which is quite substantial. All can be used to hang clothes, towels and necklaces if desired.

Hang Wall Art With Adhesive Strips Instead Of Nails

Adhesive strips attach to the back of the frame and can hold anywhere from three pounds up to 16 pounds. The best part about using adhesive strips to hang wall art is that you can remove them from smooth wall surfaces without damaging the wall. Theyre easy to use, inexpensive to purchase, and once you decide youre ready to move or take the art down, you can do so without removing the paint in a matter of seconds.

Be cautious using these on textured surfaces as they may remove the finish. You’ll need to do a little prep work to ensure the strips adhere properly.

If youre not sure which strips to choose, a good rule of thumb is to get strips that hold weight thats more than you think youll need.

Heres how to use adhesive strips to hang art on the wall:

  • Remove any protruding hardware that’s attached to the back of the picture. This includes any wires, screws, nails, or hanging fasteners. Also, remove any frame stands that will prevent the art from hanging flat against the wall.
  • Clean the frame and wall area with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Allow the surfaces to dry.
  • Press the two sides together for each set of strips.
  • Remove the paper liner and attach the adhesive side to the back of the picture. Hold for 30 seconds. Light-weight artwork should only need a single set of strips positioned at the top center. Medium-weight pieces will require two sets at each top corner and heavy pictures will need four sets positioned at the top corners and on each side.
  • Embrace The Wall Lean

This is the simplest solution of all, but it’s totally effective. All of that empty space on top of your giant dresser or media console is open for you to express yourself artistically. Play around with the different pieces you have by overlapping them or clustering them all on one side for asymmetrythe sky’s the limit here. This also goes for larger pieces that can be rested on the floor. Mirrors and bigger canvases can have a huge impact when they are at the same level as your feet.
