Are Gel Manicures Worth It
If you get normal manis on the reg or have a big spring break trip coming up that you want chip-free color for, gel is def worth the splurge. They only cost around $10 to $15 more than a regular one. But if it’s just for one night or you’re on a budget, you might want to opt for press-on nails or a regular manicure.
Step : Selecting The Tips
- You need to find the right size of tips for your nails. What exactly is the right size?
- The tips which fits perfectly on both sides of your nail is the right size but definitely ready made tips wont perfectly fit you.
- You will find the tips which are either short or little extra in size. Which one to choose?
- Always go with the one which is bigger than your nail width and then file it to the correct size using a nail filer and buffer.
- You must not forcefully fit the shorter tip on your nail as it may then lift up later and will continue pinching you.

1. Top Coat and Base Coat. Gel polish always needs a base coat and a top coat. There are a few brands that do not need a base coat or top coat, but those are the exception not the rule. Plus, they are always clearly marked. In general, you need a base coat and top coat and they dont necessarily have to be the same brand or be the same brand as the gel polish color you are using. Just make sure they all cure in the type of lamp you have.
2. UV or LED Lamp. Gel polish must be cured in a UV lamp or LED lamp. UV cures in 1-3 minutes and LED cures in 30-60 seconds. See more about the differences between UV and LED lamps in my Gel Polish F.A.Q. post. Probably the best LED lamp is the Gelish 18G. A more affordable option is the MelodySusie 12w Violetti LED lamp. A great UV lamp is the CND Shellac Official UV Lamp. A more affordable option is the Salon Edge 36w UV Lamp.

Two to three weeks, but no more than three weeks. Even if the clients nails grow slowly, Kandalec says they should still have them redone around the three-week mark because the gel will continue to cure under the sun and will become harder to get off and potentially cause more damage than normal.
To ensure your gel polish lasts the full two weeks, Kandalec recommends applying cuticle oil under the free edge in between appointments to prevent your natural nail from curling away from the gel.

You need a cuticle pusher to prep your nail before applying the acryl.
Cuticles are essential to be moved out of the way as much as possible.

The nail file and the buffing block are also part of the nails preparation process.

Nail Tech Training Hour Requirements
Students are required to complete a certain number of training hours in addition to completing their coursework. The number of training hours required will depend on the state in which you attend school, as each has different requirements. For example, you need 250 hours of training to qualify in New York, but 600 in Arizona.
These training hours combine theory and practice, so students can expand on what theyve learned in the classroom and get hands-on experience before entering the field. Students will practice salon services on real clients, including manicures, pedicures, and advanced nail techniques.
Using A Pinching Tool
After you have practised doing acrylic for a while or are confident doing basic acrylics, you can use a pinching tool on the nail to make the nail longer, more slender, and to make a stronger C curve, which will make the nail stronger. If youre not using a pinching tool, move onto the next steps.
- When the acrylic is still drying place the Pinching Tool on the nail like a clamp . If you want it to pinch really narrow then use the bottom end of the pinching tool.
- Leave on for about 3 minutes.
- Tap the nail to see if it makes a ting sound and then remove the pinching tool by squeezing the sides apart.
9. Wait a little over 2 minutes for the acrylic to dry .
10. File the entire nail until it is smooth on the top and around the edges and to make the shape more defined. .
11. Now you need to add a top coat to seal in the acrylic. The two steps below show 2 ways of doing this: If you DONT have a lamp to dry your acrylics:
Apply Air Dry Top Coat to your entire nail and leave to dry for about 2 minutes.
If you DO have a lamp:
Put your hand under the lamp and turn on.
Leave to cure for 2 minutes under a UV lamp .
When the time is up, remove your hand.
12. Finish off the look by adding a stroke of cuticle oil to the cuticle area of each nail and rub in with your fingers.

Are Acrylic Nails Hard To Do At Home
Acrylic nails can be hard to do at home if you do not have all the equipment to hand and you do not follow the right process steps.
Equally, it is usually harder in the beginning if you are your used to doing your own nails and simply lack enough practice to do so.
If you are not too confident, maybe try applying regular nail polish at first until you gain more confidence in doing nails.
If you follow the steps for acryl application correctly and prepare your nails well, acryl should not be too difficult to perform.
Remember that acrylic nails are the most complicated and sophisticated form of a manicure and it may take some time to master it, unless you already have some practice.
I have actually released a step-by-step acrylic nail from home course.

How Do You Remove Shellac
Where you see the most nail health benefits of Shellac is in the removal process, Arnold says. Shellac has a unique formulation that when applied, forms tiny microscopic tunnels throughout the coating. This means that when its time for removal, the acetone penetrates through those tiny tunnels, all the way to the base layer, actually releasing the polish off of the nail. In other words, no long removal times or dreaded scraping. As simple as the process is, Arnold recommends getting the polish removed at a salon rather than doing it yourself.

Whats The Difference Between Gel Nail Extensions And Acrylic
Gel extensions wears the same amount of time as acrylics, if not longer. The main difference between the two is in the flexibility. Minerva says while gel extensions are pliable and have a little bit of give, acrylics are brittle and break more easily. Minerva also adds that the extensions are thinner than acrylics, so they feel more like a natural nail.

How To Do Gel Nails At Home For Beginners The Step By Step Guide
Please note: For each of the below steps, I would recommend that you go through them one hand at a time doing 5 nails on one hand first. You can then simply repeat the process for your other hand.
Step One: To begin your gel manicure, you should first make sure that your nails are clean and free of old polish and any dirt.
You want to ensure that they are well-groomed. This includes pushing your cuticles back following the shape and giving the nail plate a very light buff.
This is going to add a little texture for the gel to grab onto and to take hold. Just make sure you stop once your nail starts to turn whitish
Step Two: After you have prepped and cleaned each and every one of your nails, use a lint-free wipe and rubbing alcohol to cleanse the nail.
This is going to remove any debris and oils from your nail which are things that cause your Mani to not last as long.
If you have particularly oily nails, or if you often have trouble with polish or Gel lasting, I recommend using a Nail Primer. This particular one dries sticky which really helps the gel grab onto the natural nail.
With the primer, I like to just apply it in the areas of concern like around the cuticle, the sides, and the tip.
Now a quick warning from my experience if your primer is heavy-duty, if youre wanting to remove your gel sooner than a week maybe skip this step because it seems like the longer its on, the harder the removal process is.
Step Five: So now its time to apply your color gel.
