No, you cannot do nails in the United States without a license. Note that to provide beauty services such as hair cutting, shampooing, coloring, makeup, hair removal, manicure, and other services, almost every state in the US expects the individual to acquire a cosmetology license, and to get this license, almost all states require the passing of an exam.

This standardized exam encompasses topics such as infection control, haircutting, chemical waving, facial, manicure, hair removal, and more. To do nails in the United States, you have to complete nail technician training and acquire your nail technician license.

Have it in mind there are two separate processes to acquire your nail technician training and license. You can choose to register as a full or part-time student on a state-approved training program or apprenticeship program. Note that your local college or cosmetology or beauty school might even offer training programs.

However, it is always imperative to verify that the program is fully approved by NACCAS . A good number of those courses may also require you to obtain experience in a salon before you can graduate. Apprenticeship programs are available in accredited nail salons. In these accredited salons, experienced nail technicians teach you the techniques and expertise you need to flourish.

How To Become A Nail Tech

Although its tempting to go out and apply for a job simply based on personal experience with nails, becoming certified is a more formal process than that.

The first step is choosing among the different nail/manicurist schools either vocational or cosmetological that offer training toward getting a nail tech certification.

If a potential student knows others in the field they may even want to ask them where they obtained their training. Some programs may require courses that offer an overview of all of the subsets of cosmetology, including hair, skin, and nail care. Others allow students to specialize from the very beginning of their coursework.

Students who want to learn how to become a manicurist need to follow the same general framework. Some states have different certification requirements than they do for nail technologists. Aspiring manicurists should carefully review those requirements with their state board of licensing before they begin coursework at a school. Doing so ensures that they will be able to meet those requirements on completion of their course of study.

Those looking for a career receive hands-on training as well as classroom instruction while in school. This helps to make sure that students not only learn what they need to know in order to be successful, but that they are able to develop skills related to what they have learned.

Nail technicians, or manicurists, provide cosmetic care for the feet and hands of clients. If you currently work as a nail technician and plan to move across state lines, you must get a professional license in your new state. The process for getting the license varies, but often involves an examination of your current credentials and may also require you to complete a written exam. To avoid breaking licensing laws, get your new license before looking for work.
