The day has finally come for me to do a full blog post on how to apply press on nails! I had so much fun with my everyday makeup pictorial that I thought I would do another for these press on nails. I talk about this on my all the time, but now all my tips and tricks will be in one place. I am OBSESSED with press on nails. Theyâre quick. Theyâre easy and they look just like the real thing. I prefer them over regular polish since regular polish lasts all of 3 minutes on me before I chip it somehow. Press on nails are also better than gels in my opinion. No spending $40 on a gel manicure or having to go to the salon every few weeks. Hopefully this tutorial will help guide you how to apply press on nails for a salon look for much cheaper!

Step #: Apply Your Glue
Using the nail glue that comes with the packaging, apply a small dot at the tip of your natural nail and just below the cuticle. Remember, you only need to use a tiny bit of glue. Using too much glue can ruin your press-on nails and shorten the life of your manicure.

She recommends always using your file at an angle underneath the nail and never directly on top of the press-on because you may end up filing off the colour or design. And if youre tempted to cut them at all with nail clippers, dont! It can damage and crack the nail.

Optional Step: File The Press
Think your press-on nails look a bit too long? This step is totally optional, but you can always file them downjust like you would your regular nails. The only difference is you might need to use a nail file with a higher grit. Not only can you shorten the nails if needed, but you can also change the nail shape if you prefer something different. Alternatively, you can buy press-ons that have your perfect shape and length to begin with that way you can skip the extra step.
The Downsides Of Using Glue
If you feel like you must use glue to make those DIY press-ons last , there are a few things youll want to keep in mind.
First of all, never use too much. Youve heard the expression a little goes a long way and that applies to using nail glue.
Just a light coat on the nail bed is all you need to ensure adhesion, and any more than that will end up doing more harm than good for your manicure or pedicure.
Of course, there are downsides to nail glue that we need to mention.
Above all, its been made clear by science that glue is far from a natural substance, and ideally, we wouldnt have to use it at all.
