Getting Your Nails Ready

How to Apply Press-On Nails | TIPS & TRICKS | Everything You Need to Know | Katie Marie
  • 1Take off your old polish and/or nails. You’ll need to take off your old polish, even if it’s clear, in order to apply fake nails. Having old polish on your nails will make it harder for the fake nails to stick. They’ll end up falling off in a day or two unless you take this necessary step.XResearch source
  • If you’re already wearing fake nails, either acrylics or gels, go ahead and remove them. You can use acetone or another method to do the job.
  • Wash your hands after using acetone or another polish remover. The chemicals used in nail polish remover can dry out your nails.
  • 2Soak your nails. Giving yourself a quick manicure prep before applying fake nails will keep your nails healthy and ensure the fake nails stay on for as long as possible. Start by soaking them in warm water for about five minutes, until they’re nice and soft. Dry your hands and nails with a cloth.XResearch source
  • You can add some body wash or hand soap to the water if you want, but don’t soak your hands in a solution that contains oil. While a good oil soak is a great way to moisturize your hands, having traces of oil on your nails before you apply fake nails will make it harder for them to stick.
  • 3 Trim and file your nails. Use a nail clipper or nail scissors to trim your nails so that they’re all even. Trim them short, but not to the quick you want a bit of an edge to give the fake nails more to hold onto. Use a nail file to give your nails a good smooth edge.XExpert Source

    Published: by Jen Lopez

The day has finally come for me to do a full blog post on how to apply press on nails! I had so much fun with my everyday makeup pictorial that I thought I would do another for these press on nails. I talk about this on my all the time, but now all my tips and tricks will be in one place. I am OBSESSED with press on nails. Theyâre quick. Theyâre easy and they look just like the real thing. I prefer them over regular polish since regular polish lasts all of 3 minutes on me before I chip it somehow. Press on nails are also better than gels in my opinion. No spending $40 on a gel manicure or having to go to the salon every few weeks. Hopefully this tutorial will help guide you how to apply press on nails for a salon look for much cheaper!

    Admire Your New Manicure

And voila, youve now got an at home, yet professional, salon-worthy manicure from the comfort of your own bed or couch, or wherever you are when you pulled off this amazing feat.

Once youve completed all these steps, youre good to go and enjoy your lovely new manicure. However, if youre interested in learning how you can make your press on nails last even longer, continue on and check out the tips below.

    Step #: Apply Your Glue

Using the nail glue that comes with the packaging, apply a small dot at the tip of your natural nail and just below the cuticle. Remember, you only need to use a tiny bit of glue. Using too much glue can ruin your press-on nails and shorten the life of your manicure.

Editors note: If youre not a fan of using nail glue, there is another option. Press-on adhesive strips! Most press-on kits come equipped with nail glue and adhesive strips, so you can choose whats best for you. Make sure to follow the instructions listed on the packaging for your desired results. Keep in mind, press-on nails typically last longer with glue.

    Kiss Brand Press on Nails

One of the golden rules of nail art is to have fun, and press-ons are no different. There are *so* many options now, from nude to OTT glitter to intricate designs, that you truly are spoiled for choice. If you want to hit on a spring trend with your next application, Edwards is all about light peach and terracotta hues right now, and Andrews is obsessed with pastels and metallics. Both call-out the double French manicuretwo stripes of colour on the tipas the nail art style du jour. Just remember: Anything goes. Try something fresh, like a nail colour or design that is new to your style and step outside your comfort level, says Edwards.

    How Long Do They Last

Again, this comes down to the quality of press-ons you purchase, but Frank says that a good application can last up to two weeks with proper care. If the nails themselves are durable, you can reuse them too, she says. My rule of thumb is: More glue equals longer wear. The cool part about press-ons is that you actually can wear them for very short periods of time too! Just look at Beyonce’s 2018 Coachella performance. There’s no salon backstage, Frank says. She just switched out her press-ons! So, whether you want flashy nails just for the weekend or youre hoping for a longer-lasting mani, press-ons might just be the answer to your prayers, especially those that come with adhesive tabs .

    Always Start With Clean Nails

As with any surface that you put an adhesive on, your nails need to be polish-, oil-, and dirt-free to ensure your press on set lasts. After removing any traces of nail polish with polish remover or acetone, be sure to wash your hands with soap and warm water thoroughly. Also, use an alcohol pad to remove any excess oil present on your nail beds.

Pro Tip: Gently buff the surface of your nail for an extra-smooth surface your press-on can actually stick to.

How To Apply Kiss Impress Press On Nails

Thank you for stopping by today. I promised and I am delivering a review of one of my favorite beauty products, Kiss Impress Press on Nails. I found out about this fast, long-lasting alternative to gel manicure sometime last year from a friend and I have been hooked since then. I received products from KISS for my review in June but like I mentioned above I have been using their products way before this opportunity, so you know you are getting an honest review. If you are always on the go, dont have the time to go to the nail shop, love having pretty nails and want to save money while still having pretty nails, keep reading this product is for you. Also I am giving away one set of KISS Impress to a reader and a friend.

If you follow the instructions that comes with the product to the T, you will have no issues with it. Keyword being, following every single step. Dont skip any step because you will end up with nails that come off easily and we dont want that.

    Shorten And Shape Them

HOW TO PUT ON PRESS ON NAILS FOR BEGINNERS (step by step)

Now that your nails are on , if the length is too long for your liking, simply file down the press-ons to your desired length. Filing and contouring the sides of the nails will give a more natural and streamlined look, Edwards says. She recommends always using your file at an angle underneath the nail and never directly on top of the press-on because you may end up filing off the colour or design. And if youre tempted to cut them at all with nail clippers, dont! It can damage and crack the nail.

Painting press-on fingernails is a great way to express your style without having to groom and grow out your natural nails. You can add polish to press-on nails before applying them to your nails using some tape and a cotton swab, or easily paint press-on nails once theyre already adhered to your fingernails.

    How To Ensure Your Press

Remember: a detailed prep will ensure your press-on nails last long, Bustle added. So, after prep is completed, you can either add the sticky tape what comes inside the press-on nail package or a dab of nail glue. Celebrity nail artist and KISS brand ambassador Gina Edwards told Harper’s Bazaar that applying both the sticky tape and glue will keep your nails for at least 10 days.

Bustle, on the other hand, encouraged applying a base coat before the glue as the coat will not only protect your natural nails, but prolong the press-on nails’ longevity. In our opinion, why not do both procedures?

The next important process in the application is how you’re putting on your nails. You can’t just slap them on your nail beds and expect them to stay. No, there’s a certain art. Per Harper’s Bazaar, apply the nails at a downward angle. Then, go ahead and file, but not before each nail has been applied. “Always contour the nails from the sidewalls to taper them for an even more natural look,” Edwards said. “Everyone’s nail beds are different and contouring is key for super natural-looking nails.”

Go ahead and put on some topcoat, let it dry, and you’ll have good, long-lasting press-ons.

    Optional Step: File The Press

Think your press-on nails look a bit too long? This step is totally optional, but you can always file them downjust like you would your regular nails. The only difference is you might need to use a nail file with a higher grit. Not only can you shorten the nails if needed, but you can also change the nail shape if you prefer something different. Alternatively, you can buy press-ons that have your perfect shape and length to begin with that way you can skip the extra step.

    The Downsides Of Using Glue

How to put on press on nails....that last!

If you feel like you must use glue to make those DIY press-ons last , there are a few things youll want to keep in mind.

First of all, never use too much. Youve heard the expression a little goes a long way and that applies to using nail glue.

Just a light coat on the nail bed is all you need to ensure adhesion, and any more than that will end up doing more harm than good for your manicure or pedicure.

Of course, there are downsides to nail glue that we need to mention.

Above all, its been made clear by science that glue is far from a natural substance, and ideally, we wouldnt have to use it at all.

Super-healthy hippie gurus will tell you that if you cant eat it, you shouldnt use it anywhere on your body. Were not quite on that level, but we get the point.

Too much glue use over time can degrade the quality of the nail bed and make it trickier to grow strong and healthy nails in the long term.

We recommend that you take it easy on the glue, try to find more natural solutions if you can and every once in a while go glue-free to restore the natural oils and cell structure of your real nails.

If you do run into an unfortunate situation where nail glue gets stuck to your skin, Healthline has some tips to ensure you get out of that sticky situation.

Most of the tools you need are probably already in your medicine cabinet. Nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, or nail acetone, cotton balls, a nail file or buffer, and some basic cuticle oil.

    Soak In Warm Soapy Water

Glues dont like water. Therefore, soaking your nails in warm soapy water can help to remove the press on nails without harming your natural nails. Place some detergent in warm water and shake to form a lather. Allow it to soak for up to 20 minutes or as long as required.

Press-on nails are reusable, which makes them a super saver. If you plan to reuse your press-on nails, make sure you separate them from the unused ones in the kit. You can now join the artistic nail trend on Instagram without having to bore a hole in your pocket.

    Three: File Your Nails

Shape them if you want. I have this nail file that has 4 sides, each side performing different functions. One side allows me to shape, the second side is for smooth edges, the third side is for buff surface and the last side is to polish.

    Difference between polishing and buffing

Polishing generates a brushed or lined finish, whereas buffing removes the lines.

What Are The Benefits Of Press

    • First of all, press-on nails are extremely affordable! Prices average at about $8 per set, though you can certainly dish out closer to $20 for a set of Static Nails.
    • It takes me less than 10 minutes to prep my nails and apply the falsies which makes getting ready for an even a snap Having said that, you might take longer the first couple of times, but not by much.
    • They leave my nails healthier than before
    • They are super-duper easy to remove without causing any nail damage.
    • My favorite thing about press-on nails though is the wide variety of designs and colors to choose from.

    Ways To Make Your Press

How to apply Press-on Nails with GLUE!
  • Make sure your nails are totally clean before applying your press-ons so that dirt, oil, or other debris doesnt prevent the glue from fully adhering the press-on to your real nail.
  • Apply your glue with how long you want your press-on nails to last. If youre hoping to switch up your nail look just for the weekend, Frank says to only use a couple of drops of glue if you want your press-ons to last for a week or more, cover your entire nail in glue.
  • Opt for shorter nails. As fun as long coffin, stiletto, and almond-shaped nails are, the longer the length, the more likely theyll be to snag on something and accidentally pop off.
  • Consider using a different glue than the one that comes in your kit. Some of the top-reviewed nail glues include KISS PowerFlex Max Speed Glue and Mia Secret Nail Glue .
  • Skip baths or just remember not to submerge your nails underwater. Since press-ons are designed to come off with just soap and water, letting them sit under soapy suds for long periods can shorten their wear.

    Beauty Trendshow To Use Press

Believe it or not, your nails play an important factor in pulling your overall beauty look together. And if you havent been able to make it to a nail salon as of late, chances are good youre probably freaking out a bit. Lucky for you, we have some positive news. Press-on nails are the latest beauty trend thats emerged to give your nails a professionally done look right at home. Of course, if youre going to switch to wearing press-ons, there are a few questions youll need the answers to: How do you apply and remove press-on nails? How long do press-on nails last? What do they cost? Below, were giving you the full scoop on press-on nails so you can get well acquainted with this buzzy nail trend.

    Why I Love Press

If you cant grow your nails or if, like me, you want to elongate short stubby fingers with uneven nails, the imPRESS press-on manis are the most affordable and easiest way to experiment with fake nails. They come in a wide variety of lengths, patterns, and shapes, so you can pick whatever looks the most natural on you.

I honestly didnt think the imPRESS press-on manicures would work for me because my fingers are crooked and fake nails have never, ever worked for me before, but the almond-shaped pre-glued nails I tried were a perfect fit. I really loved Next Wave* , though Symphony* wasnt a big hit due to the square shape that doesnt flatter my hands.

My biggest worry was that I wouldnt be able to figure out how to apply them, but I promise you, it could not be easier. The glue tabs are completely mess-free and foolproof, and I say that as someone who is more accident-prone than most. The patented SuperHold adhesive worked like a charm, but it was still easy to remove without damaging my natural nails when the time came. Once you figure out how to apply press-on nails for the first time, youll never want to go back to your natural nails.

    How You Remove Press

While press-on nails are less likely to leave your nails damaged, when compared to gels or acrylics, it’s still important that you’re gentle when you take them off.

What not to do? If a fake nail has one side coming loose, don’t tear it off. “Never ever pull of a nail tip,” says Edwards. “This will surely damage the nails.”

Instead, soak your nails in an acetone-based nail solution with baby oil. Edwards swears by a mess-free kit like KISS Quick Soak Off Removal System. It includes soak-off caps and nail-shaped pads. “Just add baby oil, which helps lift product off the nail and prevents dry skin, she says”
